Character concept / User contact info - This version of Jean-Luc was originally created for The Corporation storyline "Along Came a Spider"[[1]], however I found I enjoyed played the Isles so much I had to find a way to keep Jean-Luc over on Redside. I gave him his undercover alter-ego "Richard Harts", and the name "White Howl", then developed him from there. So far he's a fair bit of fun if a bit difficult to like as Richard!

[edit] Personality

There are actually several personalities which make up "White Howl". When not undercover, he was Loup Garou, and when in the Corporation, was "Richard Harts", a very mysterious, quiet, and considerably cold man. He dressed in "trenchcoat mafia" fashion with a voice-synth device around his throat to change his voice to a flat, electronic monotone. It went with his personality, which was rather offputting and tended to cause a fair few of the Corporation to mistrust him - however he still managed to what he needed to do.

As things went on, Jean-Luc found himself struggling with his Richard persona, as it had stopped becoming a mask, and seemed to be taking on a life of its own. He struggled and eventually glued all the aspects of his personality together into what is now known as White Howl, a Jean-Luc retaining his sense of humour and morality, yet more than capable of killing or entering the Death Rings when need be. He now has managed to make peace with the more human aspects of himself, as well as his need to hunt and protect, and to kill when the bloodlust rises in him enough to do so, without feeling too much remorse.

[edit] Motivation

Jean-Luc's primary motivation has always been about his promise to be someone and to fight for others, and not merely for a bit of cash for more Supa-X or booze. After the danger had passed with the Corporation, he was given a new task by his lover, Ardent Defender, to help protect and aid the mutants who are supressed in the Isles. ((see Supremacy storyline)) Also, his best friend, Hand of Battle has also taken up residence in the Isles, and he feels an obligation to keep her safe and teach her how to survive. As a result, Jean-Luc has been enlisted as a instructor and master of "corporal defence" - to the point of fighting to the death if need be, and to survive by any means necessary.

[edit] Primary Powers

Jean-Luc has mastered the art of melting into shadows and his surroundings to perform devastating ambushing strikes. This is something he had to learn in the Isles, and he's managed to fine tune it to deadly accuracy, often taking out his foes in one strike from behind before they can cry out. His time in the ring and training in Paragon has given him considerable stamina and he's also considerably stronger than most assassins or stalkers of his type.

[edit] Secondary Powers

White Howl has an advanced metabolism and healing rate, and spends very little time healing up between battles - a good thing as he rarely seems to consider how much trouble he's getting himself into. He boosts these abilities with his own training regimen - a rather gruelling workout session which he's stuck to over the years. In addition to this, he can take more of a beating than most, and is very agile and difficult to knock off his feet.

White Howl also has a very heightened sense of smell, and can detect the presence of people quite often before they announce themeselves - even stalkers somehow have a difficult time sneaking up on him, though it's not impossible to do. He has been practicing the art of stealth-ambush fighting himself, and can blend into his surroundings, using them to his advantage for surprise strikes on an opponent.

[edit] Equipment

Due to an acute allergic reaction he recently suffered whilst fighting the most recent Rikti invasions, Jean-Luc has to resort to wearing an armour suit whenever battling the hostile alien forces. The suit is comprised of impervium armour, pressure-sphincters which allow him to sheath and retract his claws, and a rebreather which has access to the serum required in case of infection. The rebreather also has a special slot for a disk which reacts to the humidity of his breath, releasing a drug which inhibits his ability to shift, although still allowing him his metabolic healing abilities. The suit is somewhat ponderous, but he is learning to move with just as much speed and agility as before.

[edit] Abilities

Jean-Luc can control his shifts considerably better than he was capable of doing on the Isles, but this mostly has to do with him refusing to control it at all - he allows himself to shift whenever he pleases, rather than withold it for a more opportune moment.

[edit] Vulnerabilities

Loup Garou has contracted a rare form of anaphylaxis and is greatly vulnerable to the toxic gas of Rikti Monkeys. To protect himself, he has to wear a specially designed battle-suit and carry serum in case of infection.

[edit] Character History

Jean-Luc's history can primarily be found under the entry of Loup Garou, however this took a huge turn with some troubles Headbreaker was having with an Arbiter named Jones.[[2]]. As a result of this, Jean-Luc took on the persona of "Richard Harts", a very cold undercover agent enlisted to be the objective snoop. Sarcastic, indifferent, and a cold hearted killer, this was an exceedingly difficult role for Jean-Luc to take on, and it caused him considerable mental strain, though he managed to discover a fair bit to assist his friend.

He was further put to the test when his best friend and confidante, Hand of Battle, left Paragon City and came to the Isles for "justice" and vengeance against the evil forces at work. However, this was rapidly degenerating into a obsessive crusade against anyone Isabelle felt was failing in their duty, and after many an argument Jean-Luc managed to not only snap Isabelle back to reality, but after her participating in a nearly fatal ring-match he found himself reluctantly agreeing to train her for her new life in the Rogue Isles.

In addition to this, Jean-Luc went against his own objective duties and fell in love with the massive mutant, Ardent Defender, Acre Lento. Acre, a former member of Ebon Sun, was enlisted in a rather idealistic attempt to protect mutants from the plot of Recluse himself (see Supremacy). While Jean-Luc considered the whole thing rather quixotic, he has agreed to train mutants in combat, not merely self defence, but in quickly dispatching anyone in their path in order to secure their safety, a style he calls "lethal defence".

Jean-Luc has given control of the Fourth Wall to his main chef, Ramon, and is a manager in name only, as he is now focussing on beginning his life in the Isles.
