[edit] Affiliations
Richard Huntington is only directly associated with a small group of heroes known as the Warriors of Darkness. However, he has become close friends with many members of the Fletched Alliance, and is a familiar face at the Galaxy Girl statue in Galaxy City.
[edit] Personality
Richard is a friendly, sociable man, with a taste for risque conversation, particularly with women. He has a somewhat vicious temper, when roused, but most of the time he would prefer to allow things to just pass him by.
[edit] Motivation
Very simply, Richard is motivated by remorse. He believes that he caused the deaths of a dozen co-workers in the accident that gave him his powers, and this guilt drives him to relentlessly work for the good of others.

[edit] Primary Powers
Power Bolt, Power Blast, Energy Torrent, Power Burst, Sniper Blast, Aim, Power Push, Explosive Blast, Nova.
[edit] Secondary Powers
Power Thrust, Build Up, Conserve Power, Power Boost, Total Focus.
[edit] Additional Powers
Stealth, Invisibility, a large number of additional gadgets and abilities picked up over two years heroing in Paragon City.
[edit] Travel
Flight and Super Speed. For storytelling purposes, the speeds which Richard is capable of attaining in flight and on the ground are well-nigh unlimited. By concentrating and reducing the particle make-up of his body, he has measured a speed of 90% of the speed of light (which works out at 269,813,212 metres per second (971,327,563 km/h or roughly 600 million miles per hour), though he rarely exceeds a few hundred miles per hour in order to maintain full bodily integrity. Since his vision and reaction times are comparable to a normal human, he avoids traveling even this fast in populated regions.
[edit] Abilities
Richard Huntington is, first and foremost, a scientist. He views almost everything from the perspective of physics or technology. He finds magic to be almost completely inexplicable. He has demonstrated the ability to shift parts of himself out of phase with reality, reduce his mass to enable him to fly by carefully vectoring energy discharges from his body, wrap light around himself to become invisible, and on at least four occassions his body has been completely destroyed, only to reform in a matter of minutes (the length of time seems to vary, with no common denominator - to date it has taken not less than 5 minutes, but not more than half an hour). He firmly believes himself to be effectively immortal, though whether this is in fact the case remains to be seen. He is able to 'see' all forms of electromagnetic radiation, though he has a great deal of difficulty interpreting the data, and can easily be overwhelmed.
Richard suspects that this is only a fraction of the total powers he will eventually develop.
[edit] Vulnerabilities
Richard's body is to all intents and purposes just as vulnerable to harm as that of a normal human. However, the lack of a true nervous system enables him to selectively shut down physical sensations and override his normal limitations. He has been observed, after a moment's concentration, to calmy accept his eyeballs being popped. He is particularly vulnerable to attacks from light-based sources - which is why he detests snipers on Peregrine Island so much - and has a great deal of difficulty with being in other realities. For some reason the energy and matter from these dimensions doesn't assimilate into his body very well, and makes him ill.
[edit] Equipment
In civilian clothes: Sunglasses (holographic recording and projection, multi-spectrum sensors), wristwatch (teleport network control device), clothes (audio recording devices), belt (speaker for computer).
In 'Dark' Shadowe costume: Eyegoggles (as sunglasses), costume (as clothes)
In battlesuit: As above, plus targetting sensors, rangefinder, shielding, combat computer.
[edit] Character History
Richard Huntington studied physics at Oxford University in England, going on to become a fellow of the Institute of Physics, and gaining two PhDs in esoteric disciplines. He chose to leave academia to work for his father's company, Huntington International, in the Huntington Technologies Applied Research division, which is based in Paragon City. He was working there in 2001 when his parents died in a car crash back in England, and in his pain at this loss, drove his sister away from their previously close relationship, while she studied for her own degree.
In 2002 the rikti came, and Richard was fascinated by their technology, spending a fortune acquiring as much of it as he could, and becoming instrumental in the reverse engineering processes that enabled the construction of the War Walls. Since the end of what is now called the First Rikti War, he has been working in association with Portal Corp to develop energy sources for their portals, in an attempt to remove their reliance on the Terra Volta reactor. It was during the final test phase of one of these experiments that Richard gained his powers. He had reconciled himself with his sister, and brought her over to the USA to work in the Huntington Technologies IT department, as well as to upgrade the computer that was manging their home in the city, Huntington Manor. So she was present on the day when the force field failed, and the tiny singularity that Richard had made flew out of control, killing almost everyone nearby. Only Richard, Sam and another man, Andrew Martin, survived, and all were changed forever.
Richard went into seclusion, shutting himself away from the world in his guilt. It was during this time that he learned of the changes that had taken place within him, and he investigated, running tests continuously, until he worked out what had happened. He had absorbed the singularity somehow. And it was inside him, regenerating him, maintaining his body, and in fact storing his mind. He discovered the ability to produce and direct energy from around the singularity, and over time developed other 'tricks' as well, such as the power to wrap light around himself and become completely invisible.
It was during this time that he first entered the strange dimension that he thinks of as the Shadow World.
The Shadow World is a set of dimensions a hair's breadth away from our own. Everything that exists in the real world also exists there, but it is a world of possible futures. Things diverge from reality very quickly, there. Richard has seen dead people come back to life, and the living die. While there, he is able to pass through walls and remain unseen, but the implications that things there might be happening in the real world scare him enough that he dare not stay for very long.
Having discovered his powers, Richard decided to craft a heroic identity for himself. But in his arrogance he neglected the little things, like registering. His first few weeks as a hero were a plague on the Paragon Police Department, who were most distressed to find an unlicensed super-powered being working their beat.
When he realised that he could not continue, he created another heroic alter-ego, licensed himself properly, and went out to do good.
Since first meeting other heroes in a social setting, at the Galaxy Girl statue, Richard has made and lost friends, and has had a tumultuous relationship with the heroine Kitmarch. This relationship came to an end when Richard realised that he had, in fact, fallen in love with another woman. He doesn't love Kit any less, but his feelings are too strong for him to deny.
[edit]
As of now (April 25 2008), Richard is in an apparently stable romantic relationship with Cassandra. Zero.
