Rhode Island is one of the smallest states in the US, only the Distric of Columbia (which isn't technically a state), housing Washington, is smaller. It is 37 miles east-est, and 48 miles north south. With a population of just over 1 million, it has the second highest population desnity in the country, ranking only below New Jersey.
The two bordering states are Massachusetts on the north and east, and Connecticut to the west.
The largest city in the real Rhode Island is Providence, which is the state capital.
Residents of the state are referred to as Rhode Islanders.

The state is very white. Around 90% of the population are white, 7% black, 3% asian.
87% of Rhode Islanders are Christian, (63% are catholic and 21% Protestant). There is a small Jewish and Muslim contingent, and a slightly more sizeable (6%) agnostic or atheist group.
Many Rhode Islanders speak with a non-rhotic accent that many compare to a "Brooklyn" or a cross between a New York and Boston accent ("water" becomes "wata"). Many Rhode Islanders pronounce the 'aw' sound as one might hear in New Jersey; e.g., "coffee" is pronounced "cauwwefee."

Family Guy is set in Rhode Island, and Fox Mulder's family lived there. Many Farelly Brothers 'how dumb can I get' movies are set in Rhode Island. Brotherhood is also set there.
