Character concept: Ragefang is the NPC mentor character who left Loup Garou a base, funds, and also a book of tips and tricks for being a hero in Paragon. I wanted a character which would essentially be a conscience Jean-Luc could turn to, as well as a bit of a plot hook in order to interact with other characters in the RP Roundtable

[edit] Connections

Ragefang wasn't a big mover and shaker in Paragon, but he knew a lot of people in the community, either directly or indirectly. This information he has passed on to Loup Garou in a book he hand wrote before his death.

[edit] Personality

Ragefang's whole persona was one of extreme regret for what he'd done, essentially a character with a deathwish until he met Loup Garou and found a reason to try and pass off what he had known as a hero. His own sense of morality was reborn to him, and while he did eventually die in a Death Match fight, he did so with more of a sense of peace than he'd previously had. Though he was a gruff and rather tactiturn man in life, he occasionally showed remarkable tenderness and a gentle side to his acolyte.

[edit] Character History

Ragefang started out with a rather promising career as a hero. He immediately knew what he wanted to do with his life when his mutation manifested itself in his teenage years, and he had his full backing from his supportive parents. However, even heroes are merely human, and while his career rocketed with some rather well known arrests, Ragefang soon found life in a fast lane a bit overwhelming. At some point, he began to rely upon Superdine to boost his abilities, but the substance also tended to boost his animalistic nature. Attempts to curb his addiction always resorted in failure, and eventually upon one rather fateful raid, Ragefang was unable to curb his hunting instinct and killed all those he was supposed to be arresting. Rather than turn himself in, Ragefang fled, and through various rather shady contacts, found himself "Down Below" as a participant in the Death Rings. He took up this "existence" - as it could hardly be called a life - until he faced a young mutant called Loup Garou. Instinctively recognising a lot of himself in the young man, Ragefang took a gamble and spared the young man's life. Even though he was severely beaten and denied his prize money for such a move, Ragefang eventually was able to befriend the young man, and began to teach him about returning to the world Up Top to become a hero and save his own name.

It is difficult to say whether or not Ragefang was aware he was being hunted by the mercenary known as "Widowmaker", but it is quite likely he did. Ragefang made preparations for his young protege to be cared for when he went to Paragon long before his death, which would hint at a premonition. There has also been some suggestion Ragefang's body was beginning to break down due to his addiction to Supa-X, a derivative of Superdine which was used in the Death Ring by participants as a form of steroid. However, also unbenownst to his charge, Ragefang was participating in a little known "Return to Life" programme for heroes who had suffered from Post Traumatic Stress of their former duties, even if they had committed crimes themselves, hence he might have been able to return to Paragon City with a pardon, though merely as a citizen and not as a hero. Perhaps Ragefang however was aware he wasn't strong enough to kick the addiction to Superdine, or perhaps the idea of no longer being a hero in the Up Top world was one he couldn't quite resolve himself to. In either event, Ragefang's life did eventually come to an end in the ring, though Loup Garou was able to secure a posthumous placque in his honour in Atlas Park.

[edit] Trivia

Ragefang wrote a "little black book"...containing hints and secrets to being a hero Up Top, some of which other heroes may not be aware of or even want to be made public knowledge. In it are the names of various heroes Loup Garou can call upon for certain situations, hints on how to improve his fighting legally, the names of attorneys if he ever gets in trouble as well as the number of the "Return to Life" programme. Essentially, while Ragefang no longer walks the earth, his words live on in the handwritten book, which Loup Garou consults regularly.
