[edit] Personality

Seemingly calm and serious, though prone to bouts of madness and childlike whimsy. Sometimes speaks in ryhme when in the grip of a psychotic break.

[edit] Motivation

Psyfly works in order to gain enough power to dominate any foe. Power seems to be his only motivation.

[edit] Abilities

Sometimes charming, Psyfly is usually very polite. This may be a form of low-level psychic manipulation, as Psyfly doesn't seem to value anyone personally and can be cruel and unpleasant. Has been known to speak Latin, although it is not known if he speaks fluently.

[edit] Vulnerabilities

Common among those with psionic power, Psyfly is often wary and sometimes downright fearful of other psychics. Taking an instant dislike to psychic "rivals", Psyfly will attempt to defeat or distance himself from other psychics. Prolonged or powerful exposure to psychic assault causes deep distress and, in extreme cases, a psychotic break.

[edit] Equipment

Seen wearing battle armour and insectile helmet. It is not known how much of this is real, as Psyfly often alters other people's aesthetic perceptions of him.

[edit] Character History

Simon Fines was previously a hero in Paragon city, displaying energy blasting powers. Two years ago, his dormant psychic powers were activated, causing a psychic shockwave that killed over 40 office workers with Simon at the time. How this happened is still uncertain, although Arachnos involvement has been suspected. Simon himself was driven insane, had his hero license revoked, and was incarcerated in the Ziggurat.

After escaping during the mass breakout, it had become apparent that Simon Fines has attributed his psychic powers to a dual personality, which he named Psyfly. Now the dominant personality, Psyfly grew in strength and developed stronger psionic abilities. After stealing a psionic activator from Psymon Omega, Psyfly turned the dangerous device on himself. The part of Psyfly that was Simon Fines was destroyed, possibly forever. Now the only dominant personality, Psyfly rebuilt his powers from scratch, as has apparently lost his energy blasting powers.

Recently Psyfly has grown strong enough to challenge Rikti enemies, and has developed a strong psychic defence against them.

[edit] Psychological Report: Simon Fines (Prisoner #2334)

March 5th, 2006

Despite my attempts to rehabilitate him, Simon shows no sign of improvement. He doesn’t seem dangerous to me, though. Despite speaking nonsense from time to time, I can find nothing wrong. It is infuriating.

I argued with the guard about his neural inhibitors: surely far too heavy-handed for a case such as his? But the guard just shrugged, “lady, if you saw this guy before, you wouldn’t be arguing.” I suppose I’ll have to take his word for it, since no one will let me look at the police reports concerning his arrest: equally maddening.

Today was a particularly wearing day, all in all. No matter how much I tried to communicate with Simon, he ignored me, spouting the same little couplet, over & over

"Simon has gone underneath: the Dark Horizon has sharp teeth.”

I’m sure I’ve heard something about this “dark horizon” before.

March 10th, 2006

I fear he is worsening rapidly: Simon no longer responds to his own name, but repeatedly mentions someone called “Si-fly”. Perhaps this is an alter ego? This is not uncommon with multiple-personality syndrome, and sometimes with schizophrenia. When I asked him who this Si-fly was, he giggled and said, “Stupid woman! She looks with eyes but doesn’t know how to see with them!” Petulant behaviour, yes, but this was practically civil compared to some of the other inmates.

He talks more about the “teeth of the horizon”. Perhaps this is some event in his past he cannot escape? Or maybe for him the horizon is some event he imagines will happen to him in the future? Either way, Simon seems alternately afraid & excited by the topic.

When I returned after lunch, he was making a loud buzzing noise, like an insect. The guards said he’d been doing it for twenty minutes or so. Nothing I could say or do made him quiet, and this continued for two hours. As I turned to leave, finally giving up, he stopped buzzing and screamed, “He’s eating my thoughts!” clearly in a state of abject terror. I was quite as shocked as he by this sudden change of events, and did not act at first. In the end, he had to be sedated to stop his raving.

March 12th, 2006

Unusually, as soon as I came into his cell today, Simon stood up and fixed me with a glare. I can’t say why, but something about him rooted me to the spot. Perhaps I was just shocked at this sudden display of movement. He recited a poem to me, evidently of his own invention.

I’ll drink your mind,

I do not boast,

& Ride on wings to jagged coast.

Freed by Lord,

Joined by Lunk,

Take my wings & leave this trunk!

Tonight the horizon’s teeth will bite.

Something about the set of his jaw, and the sheer concentration in his eyes, was completely unnerving.
