[edit] Affiliations
Feline has traveled a lot but was a loner most of the time. Before empowered by Bast she was a priestess of Bast in Bubastis. She has been seen in company of warlords... and is currently affiliated with the Paragon City Museum of Culture and Classical History She also keeps strong ties to prominent musea around the world... like the National Archaeological museum of Athens [1], Cairo [2], Berlin [3] and the British Museum of History [4].
[edit] Personality
Falin Sur Bast was a devoted priestess. Simple in life but a go-lucky girl. Not shy of the men and loving clothes and jewelry. Her transformation made her a bit more serious and driven but furthermore she hasn't changed much. She is rather ancient in her way and comfortable with her body and nudity.
Having lived so long sometimes confuses her in which age and land she is. She can lose track of a place and remember then things that where a bit too long ago for others to understand. Still she enjoys to see new sights and life in general. She fully wants to experience it all...
[edit] Motivation
Faline has a strong feeling of justice and vengeance. Her first action was fighting the Persians invading her home country. She is the worldly avatar of the goddess Bast herself. As such its her solemn duty to protect the innocents and make sure secrets not meant to be known stay hidden.

[edit] Cat Body
Able to transform her body mystically into a cat/human hybrid. In this form Feline possesses high endurance, dexterity, speed, strength and agility like a giant cat. Sharp senses and claws. Reflexes are incredible. She grows a tail which helps with her balance.
Like most giant cats she is able to reach run-speeds of up to 70fps, and make astonishing leaps.
[edit] Divine Powers
Feline is in constant contact with her deity, the goddess Bast (by some called Bastet). When in dire need the goddess helps her devoted worshiper by infusing her with extra strength or endurance. If need is high Bast has been known to help in other ways too.
Feline is able to hold a person by her stare... forcing him/her to relive past sins. Bast is using this to heavy the heart of evil, making it out way the feather of Ma'at.
[edit] Immortality
Ever since the day the life bringing Ankh appeared on her chest... Falin Sur Bast stopped aging. Her life energy is constantly refueled by the people around her and she even learned to draw some extra if needed. She sometimes uses this ability to get an extra 'edge' in combat. She can be wounded and killed though. During the night.. under cloak of darkness she will slowly regenerate any damage done to her body.
If the damage is too severe she will drop into a mystical form of hibernation until her body is fully healed. This action is almost like being reborn and Feline holds the fear that it is linked to the saying that cat's have nine lives. If so... she has been 'reborn' three times already.
[edit] Abilities
Dancing, horseback riding, chariot riding, archery, sword wielding, archeology, teaching, several languages and knowledge of magical lore.
[edit] Vulnerabilities
Aside her awesome abilities in cat shape and her immortality, Feline is a normal woman when in her human shape. Her immortality is directly linked to wards the Ankh on her chest. The Ankh is golden and seems to be more like a birthmark then a tattoo.
Even as cat-hybrid she is vulnerable to harm... if you manage to hit her. When she goes into an mystical hibernation she cannot move and will only be awoken by some strong outside response. Although sunlight was enough in the past.
She can not stay in cat-hybrid shape indefinitely and must return to human shape once in a while at least.
[edit] Equipment
Falin doesn't like weapons. She hates guns. Still sometimes there is no way around it. In that case she would wield a charmed short sword blessed by the Egyptian goddess Bast herself. The sword is sometimes referred to in ancient text as 'the Claw of the Huntress'.
The sword has an Tempered, enchanted unknown metal, double-edged blade and the visage of Bast herself is placed upon it in gold. It is kept at her home on the wall above a small altar with perfumed oils.
The sword is over 3000 years old and still in perfect sharp unrusted condition. Enchantments placed upon it might make it near indestructable. When its near the natural enemies of the gods of Heliopolis the eyes in the visage of Bast will glow with a green light.
[edit] Character History
Bubastis, city of cats 531 BC. Falin Sur Bast, priestess to the goddess Bast. Bast, protector of land, woman & children. Goddess of the moon & secrets.
In her temple Falin Sur Bast danced for her goddess in the pale moonlight of the holiest of holy. There she was happiest in the shadow of the statue of Bast. But happiness was not meant to be. One evil night the moon turned blood red while the Persian army of Cambyses II attacked the temple in 525 BC. They took the treasury and raped all priestesses, including Falin Sur Bast. Most of them died that very night.
Bleeding she looked in the emerald eyes of the torn down statue and heard a voice... Bast herself came to rescue her devoted worshiper. Falin Sur Bast would be granted new empowered life, infused with the powers of the sacred cats. She would be the avatar of Bast on Earth, protector of Egypt... its inhabitants and its secrets. Reborn the symbol of life, the eternal Ankh, appeared on her chest. As long as it would remain there she would be immortal.
Many years pass... Falin Sur Bast became Egypt's national super hero... way before the word 'super hero' was even invented. She couldn't restore the temple of Bast to his former glory. But managed to relocate the holiest of holy with the idol of her goddess to a secure place. There the power of Bast would preserve its focal point.
After 300 years she became a real legend. Still operating in secret whenever she could. The Persian spies discovered that she had to return to human shape at least once a month. A human appearance she would hide away in. She was ambushed and almost killed. Wounded severely she managed to hide away in an old desert tomb... There the regeneration process started. The darkness being her death shroud she fell in a regenerating sleep that lasted over 200 years.
A young Roman found the tomb in 25 BC. Only a few years after the death of Cleopatra VII. The sunlight on her face woke Falin Sur Bast up and she noticed her body was fully restored. When she left the tomb with her new friend she learned that Egypt had changed. Roman armies where all around and the ancient temples where torn down. The line of all Egyptian pharaohs had ended. For Falin Sur Bast it was a reason to turn her back to wards Egypt for a while and learn more of the world. She checked again if the shrine of Bast she so carefully had hidden so many years ago was still safe and left to discover the world.
She traveled to wards Rome, to see how the conquerors of Egypt lived... From there she went to see Greece and spend some time in the city-state of Athens. From Athens she went to the far East. She traveled through the deserts and protected innocents from the wrath of the upcoming Huns in 438-448. In 448 however she had to face their Khan Attila, called the Scourge of God, in Armenia. The power of Bast was not enough to defeat this ruthless killer. After being defeated she was placed in a sealed tomb to die of her wounds. Again Bast kept her alive... this time Falin slept for 720 years before a small earthquake freed up an opening through which light could shine. It was 1168 and the world had changed.
Falin Sur Bast reached Constantinople in 1171. As it was one of the cities not being tainted by the Huns. She went on with her sacred duty of protecting the innocent whenever she could. But in this new age she couldn't go by the name of 'She who prowled the night' as most of the desert people before had called her. She started calling herself Feline Surbast.
Briefly she went to Cairo for a few years... Rediscovering her homeland of Egypt. As much as she loved the land, so much has changed. And after paying her respect to the hidden shrine of Bast she left the now Muslim state to travel what would become Europe.
Feline was in Spain from 1201 - 1254 where she briefly worked at the university of Salamanca. Upon the closing of the university she traveled to French where she established herself as a historical adviser at the University of Paris [5] using the name 'Felicia Su Bastille'. A business she could get away with rather easy, having lived through most of the ages herself. In 1750 she helped out the Berlin museum tracking down some ancient artifacts presumed lost.
With some tricking she managed to keep her belongings. Usually by inventing an heir named as herself. And faking her own death. As such she introduced herself as her own daughter in London for the British Museum. She worked there as assistant curator for 25 years. It was the London press that gave her the name 'Nightseye', based on an eyewitness report. Feline had rescued the drunk from a mugger and almost delirious he kept screaming... 'Eyes in the night, eyes in the night'.
In 1892 she tried her luck in the new world, just before the great immigration started through Ellis Island. She helped set up a museum in Washington and gave advise on some historical inclined movies. The historical advisor job for movies brought her to California where she was part of the crew during the shooting of 'The Sheik' with Rudolph Valentino (Released in October 30, 1921). After that she stayed in California for a while... rather at home in the desert like surroundings.
In 1931 Marcus Cole returned to his home city of Paragon enhanced with powers not unlike the greek gods. For the first time Feline started to realise that she may not be the only one on the world with mystical abilities and a will to use them. Marcus went and became Statesman, and Feline learned that she was now classified as 'super hero'. Throughout the 30's and 40's Feline saw more and more of these super powered beings appear. She travelled the country looking for them... often found on universities and highschools as teacher and guardian to the heroes of the future.
Then the Rikti attacked in 2002. Super heroes from all over the world where gathered in Paragon City for the final attack and Feline would be among them. When Hero 1 dissapeared into the Rikti portal she was fighting lone Rikti hunters on the other side of the city. And as fast as the war started, just as fast it was over again.
Unknown in Paragon City Feline set up a new home and managed to get a job at the Paragon City Museum for Culture and Classical History. Often not in office but traveling across the world finding valuable objects to show to the whole world. Still... whenever there where innocents to protect or secrets to guard... Nightseye would be there.
[edit] Trivia
- In Bast the 't' is the female part of the name according to the ancient egyptean. In later times people started to write 'Bastet' to make sure the readers would understant that the 't' had to be pronounced. But that is actually double and as thus expendeble. Bast remains the correct spelling of the name.
- The following is the description which Herodotus gives of Bubastis, as it appeared shortly after the period of the Persian invasion, 525 BC, and Mr. Hamilton remarks that the plan of the ruins remarkably warrants the accuracy of this historical eye-witness. (Herod. ii. 59, 60.):
"Temples there are more spacious and costlier than that of Bubastis, but none so pleasant to behold. It is after the following fashion. Except at the entrance, it is surrounded by water: for two canals branch off from the river, and run as far as the entrance to the temple: yet neither canal mingles with the other, but one runs on this side, and the other on that. Each canal is a hundred feet wide, and its banks are lined with trees. The propylaea are sixty feet in height, and are adorned with sculptures (probably intaglios in relief) nine feet high, and of excellent workmanship. The Temple being in the middle of the city is looked down upon from all sides as you walk around; and this comes from the city having been raised, whereas the temple itself has not been moved, but remains in its original place. Quite round the temple there goes a wall, adorned with sculptures. Within the inclosure is a grove of fair tall trees, planted around a large building in which is the effigy (of Bast). The form of that temple is square, each side being a stadium in length. In a line with the entrance is a road built of stone about three stadia long, leading eastwards through the public market. The road is about 400 feet broad, and is flanked by exceeding tall trees. It leads to the temple of Hermes."
The festival of Bubastis was the most joyous and gorgeous of all in the Egyptian calendar as described by Herodotus:
Barges and river craft of every description, filled with men and women, floated leisurely down the Nile. The men played on pipes of lotus. the women on cymbals and tambourines, and such as had no instruments accompanied the music with clapping of hands and dances, and other joyous gestures. There was much drinking and hot sex. Thus did they while on the river: but when they came to a town on its banks, the barges were made fast, and the pilgrims disembarked, and the women sang, playfully mocked the women of that town and threw their clothes over their head. When they reached Bubastis, then held they a wondrously solemn feast: and more wine of the grape was drank in those days than in all the rest of the year. Such was the manner of this festival: and, it is said, that as many as seven hundred thousand pilgrims have been known to celebrate the Feast of Bast at the same time.
