"Just an afro-american guy with a Katana, right?"
Malcolm 'Mesoc' Richard is a hero in Paragon City since the beginning of 2007 and is a member of the Supergroup Silent Tempest. Most people will know him as a rough and tough afro-american who demonstrates a ferocity in combat with his Katana, his primary weapon that is if not needed attached on his back. He isn't bothered if his team companions get the impression that he's reckless and impatient. Though he pretends to be a human he isn't quite plain human at all: His strenghts is based on the fact that Malcolm is a Dhampire, a hybrid between human and vampire. And this truth is only to a few selected people known. It is a gift to have the strengths of a vampire, but it is also a curse to share the thirst for blood that he suppresses with a serum and having a struggle to keep his instinct vampiric aggression under control in stressful situations.

Mesoc is a member of the Supergroup Silent Tempest and got invited to that supergroup by his old school time acquaintance Dustine, who was also a member of that supergroup. In Silent Tempest he met also the Sword of Truth, Nadia Troy, and developed a romantic interest in her with the time where Silent Tempest's leader Coile, Andre Kraft, turned away from her by marrying Nightsparrow. Since January 2008 are Nadia and Malcolm engaged.
Since the second Rikti War was Mesoc also an active member of Vanguard and fought in the haviest battle to hold the Rikti at bay. After he realized that the war turned him to a blind soldier and was a Rikti slaughter did Mesoc stepped down from active Vanguard duty. He's a reservist in the Vanguard now.
Mesoc also founded and co-leads with his perhaps most closest friend Bart Gale (Hand of Sorrow) the construction company BAMM in Spring 2007, utilizing super powered people for building structures instead fighting against criminals and alike.
BAMM has also built the Nightsparrow shelter which namesake was also the vigilante Nightsparrow and was build in commission of Diana Bright. Malcolm got asked by Diana to help and consult youths in the shelter who are more of the rough and tough (or even violent) types as he experienced in his own youth a troublesome time on the streets. He is also the basketball coach of the Nightsparrow Shelter.

"I am attracted to risks, dangers and hell."
Malcolm could be best described as someone who's (over-)confident in himself and his abilities and has a need to show strength. As a warrior in battles it means that he goes many times straight to the enemy and fights them, sometimes to the dislike of other team members because this strategy is rather interpreted as suicidal than brave.
If not in combat he likes to have a good time with friends, can be cocky, likes to flirt with women and is in general easy going and likes to drink alcoholic beverages, most notable: beer or a zombie cocktail. Malcolm was also used to smoke cuban cigars till the start of the second Rikti War and swore to smoke then again when the threat of the Rikti on earth is over. Though he has also his sensitive moments in life and can be suprisingly caring and be likable, but this doesn't happen often.
Malcolm is also everytime of his half-vampiric nature reminded when he feels the urge to drink blood and suppresses his need with a self composed serum that he injects in his forearm. Everytime he does that he curses that he is a half-vampire. He's always vigilant that nobody perceives him as a half-vampire, except he tells somebody so and that are only his most trusted friends.

"Fame and Glory?! Nah! I don't need that crap!"
Before his time as a hero in Paragon City, Malcolm was living in Los Angeles together with his family. He learned there from child age that life can be cruel on the streets and developed a sense to protect his family and his friends against any threat. Unfortunatly did his entire family die because of various events and Malcolm saw no point anymore to live further. In a night in the year 2006 he wanted to set an end to his seemingly meaningless life and wanted to cut his own neck with his Katana. When he felt his own blade on his neck and ready to perform his last move he heard the voice of his mother. She said to him that ending his own life won't do any good and life is filled with challenges and he shouldn't run away like a coward. Malcolm dropped his own Katana and headed eventually to Paragon City, not knowing what will expect him or why he did so, but he went further in his life to help other people and if not other motivation is there make his family, believing they live in another sphere now, proud of him.

Mesoc possesses the power of a vampire and is in many physical aspects superior to a "normal" human. Therefore he has some inherent vampiric traits: Inhuman fast agility and reflexes, heightened senses, more stronger, an above normal stamina and an accelerated regeneration rate. Knowing that his Katana is a lethal weapon, he doesn't use it only exclusive in combat situation but employs also a mixture of various martial arts techniques to incapacitate instead kill his foes. His fighting style can be described as aggressive and brutal in order to prevail in a combat situation and it's not uncommon that his foes suffer (painful) physical traumata.
[edit] Vulnerabilities
"I believe everybody has a good and bad side in them. In my case I have an ugly one as well."
He shares the same vulnerabilities as any other human, but his half vampire side make him more resistent to inflicted damage. In the same breath is his half vampiric nature also his weakness: He's dependent on a self composed serum to suppress his thirst for blood. It is also depends on his mood how often he has to inject himself this serum; In general if in good mood once a week only, otherwise in a troubled and very stressful situation every 12 hours. Malcolm would feel a cumulative lust for human blood, if he fails to inject himself the serum. He fears he'll lose control over himself if his lust is too great to keep it under control and would turn then to the "dark side".

- Weapons:
The Katana, that is most time attached on Malcolm's back in a scabbard, is his trade mark and primary weapon in combat. A remarkable quality of the Katana is that it never gets dented, stays always sharp and is indestructible. Throw Knifes and Shuriken - these bladed weapons are also regulary used by Mesoc if his opponents are not in reach of his Katana. And if his foes tend to run away from his forceful attacks he uses caltrops if needed.
- Combat Armor:
The fact that he could be wounded like any other human despite his inhuman reflexes and the last massive Rikti Invasion in summer 2007 were he threw himself mindlessly into battles and got often wounded and made his friends worry about him changed his mind about using an armor. Inspired by the Japanese Samurai who wear armors when going into battle did Mesoc assembled his own armor composed of modern materials which provides him protection and a great deal of flexibility to remain his agility in combat. The black painted (or black with blue thunder symbols on it) armor is bulletproofed, tearproofed, fireproofed, can withstand a direct energy blast and has incorporated impact dampening layers. The suit also features metal gauntlets with spikes on the forearms in order to block knife and other stabbing weapons. It is also temperature regulated that it doesn't get uncomfortable inside the suit.
- Electronics:
To stay in reach of Silent Tempest's signals carries Malcolm a comm unit and to speak freely during combats does he wear a headset. His cellphone is the other device to establish contact with other people. He uses it primarily to reach contacts that help him in pursuit of injustice or speak with his friends. Malcolm does also carry a PDA. It is helpful to coordinate tasks, show map overviews during a mission or having a link-up to Silent Tempest's database. A personal stealth generator that is attached on his belt makes it hard to see him from distance when it is activated (and it rarely does). As most other heroes does he carry of course an Emergency Medical Transporter too.
- Miscellaneous:
He has a cuban cigar from his days where he was smoking them regulary. It is secured in a pen to protect it from the regulary combat influences. Also does Mesoc carry several ampules of his precious serum to inject it whenever necessary. If the metal ampule is opened they reveal a needle and the liquid.

Malcolm has met since his arrival in Paragon City a lot of new people. The following lists contains selected people with who spent time for a lengthly period or had an significant role in an episode of Mesoc's adventures and/or privat life.

- Dustine
"She's a weirdo!"
When Malcolm arrived first in Paragon City and registered for heroism he met Dustine shortly after and both knew each other from school time in Los Angeles. They weren't friends and rather acquaintances from old times. Nontheless have they met and talked on top of a scyscrapper in Galaxy City and gave him a glimpse of what Paragon City is. He didn't really understand all the strange and unusual ways and she comforted him that he'll see it all soon if he would stay in Paragon. He wasn't sure then and after all he got nothing where he could go to. All his family died in Los Angeles and he was unresting for several years and in depression and nearly committed suicide. She told him to stay in Paragon and stay here. He gave her advice a try and decided to stay in Paragon.
Later she also recommended to Coile to recruit Mesoc into the Silent Tempest and vouched that he's harsh man, but a fine warrior and will be an addition to Tempest. To that time point their relation grew better and became friends, but it wasn't unusual that Dustine and Mesoc were at odds and blamed each other that they haven't changed in behaviour since the old school time. Malcolm also learned more of Dustine's background and that she is part of a higher mystical sphere and claimed to do everything for Balance and probably meant a deity.
Dustine was also regulary on extended leave to maintain Balance and Malcolm had this faith that she always comes back. He keeps even this faith after Dustine appeared a last time to the Silent Tempest and said her goodbye to the whole team and that it is for the greater good for everyone to vanish and the "big darkness" won't arrive with her departure. She transformed into a crystal and flied into flinders. He took one of the fragments as a memory and keeps his faith up that it wasn't the last time he has seen her.
"He's believing in Nut? Hah, he's also nuts!"
When Dustine and Malcolm were talking again on top of the skyscraper they were joined by Coile, a young boy, mutant and leader of the Silent Tempest and demonstrated his new costume while hanging in air. They exchanged names and had some small talk before they would meet again later in Pocket D. While being there he met also several other members of the Tempest and its allies and he felt first uncomfortable as it was all new to him. Nontheless got he asked by Coile to attend to the next meeting of the Tempest as Dustine suggested he could be an addition to their supergroup.
So there he was in their meeting and waiting together with Hand of Sorrow and ShadowWoman, both applicants as well, till the meeting's start. He felt slightly released that he isn't the only new recruit to the Tempest and each of them had to tell the members of the Silent Tempest about their motivation why they want to help and doing it so in that supergroup. He simply told the truth: he got nothing else to do than helping others and sees it as a challenge to go on with life despite the heavy losses he sustained and wants to make his family proud of him, since he believes that his family will wait for him beyond life. Coile granted him to be a member of the Silent Tempest and received his own comm unit and access codes to the base.
