Team of the Winter Season: The Militia

Citizens defending the City
Citizens defending the City

Originally brought together by a concerned billionaire, the Militia has evolved into a group of diverse but likeminded people united in their efforts to restore order within the city. The focus of the Militia is more on threats to the city and its citizens rather then other-dimensional or external threats but will rise to the challenge when required. Their base in Kings Row keeps them in touch with the citizen on the street through their drop in centre but their expertise has ensured that they are capable of responding to larger scale threats when the need arises.

Tragedy struck in November 2008 when a man walked into the Eric Mitchell Memorial Clinic and exploded, causing the destruction of the building. Although the Militia and the Hyperion Watchmen were able to evacuate everyone from the collapsing building, this event unveiled a new beginning for the urban supergroup. With the clinic destroyed, the two teams decided to join together to face the threat that had struck at both... (More)

Hero of the Winter Season: Crazy Dragon

"Aye?"
"Aye?"

Crazy Dragon can vary between quiet and generally chatty depending on who he's talking to. Often somewhat agressive to anyone who annoys him. Get him into a battle, though, and he is a maniac, often seen screaming all sorts of abuse at his foes. In the case of Rikti attacks - which he ofter refers to as 'parties' ("The real parties are where the Rikti dance.") - he can often be found taunting fallen invaders in a somewhat psychotic manner (Seriously, you can't help but wonder what goes through the mind of a sword-wielding nutcase that commands his foes to "Squirm!" and "Scream!"). He chose to take a different path in life after the pursuit of a former friend became a path paved in the bodies of the innocent.

After killing his friend, Stacker set about raiding his apartment for his money. As well as finding that money, he stumbled across two swords, a ninja blade and a rapier. Stacker took the swords and over time, developed his own fighting style using them. He named the swords Gold and Silver, largely because of the colour of each blade. That, and he couldn't name an inanimate object to save his life. After a brutal fight in Durham City, England, Stacker refused any help to get home, opting to stagger wherever instead. That "wherever" ended up being right outside the city's cathedral, where he stumbled across a bag full of decrepit-looking books. It was soon discovered that within the tomes were several spells, a few of which Stacker makes us of to this day to defend himself better.

Stacker has learned a couple of spells allowing for teleportation. One spell can only allow him to teleport those he wishes to kill. He often uses this spell to his advantage when faced with dangerous odds. The second spell allows Stacker to teleport himself, but he hasn't quite got the jist of this yet. Rumour has it that he teleported from the plinth of the Galaxy Girl statue, aiming for the Freedom Corps building, only to rematerialise right under her skirt. Several feet above ground. Richie's street-fighting history, combined with the fact he is part-alien, has contributed to his good health, being able to recover from blows better then others, run slightly faster and fight for longer without wearing himself out. Richie is telepathic, but being someone who valued his own humanity long before learning he was part-Barien, he tries supress his abilities..." (More)

Villain of the Winter Season: Alley

What you lookin' at?
What you lookin' at?

Alley is out to prove herself and make some money. Or, that's what she tells herself. In reality, she desperately needs a 'crew' to identify with, and she believes that beating people up is the only thing she's even half good at. She's likes to be independent and confident, brash and abrasive. Being raised on the streets of Mercy Island is hard, and so she tries to be even harder. In the past, she hated people getting the jump on her or any kind of intimacy, and had difficulty dealing with any stressful situation she couldn't solve through violence. So she used to be pretty highly strung. All this was fine for a while, until Sam (aka Aimless) came along and swept Alley away. With his ability to read and manipulate emotions he directly changed her personality so that she was more contented and friendly. And of course, unswervingly loyal and adoring of Sam himself. When that all fell through with the source of Aimless' power being removed, Alley had severe withdrawal. To replace that feeling she has since turned to drug use, even going so far as to get herself implanted with a Freakshow-style drug pump. With a constant supply of drugs she can artificially regulate her mood most of the time. She used to think she wouldn't live long enough to retire, but since getting involved with Harry Marsh she has started to be more hopeful that they'll leave the Isles together.

Her strength, toughness, regeneration and endurance are all enhanced by her level of confidence. This is a mutation that she is currently only vaguely aware of. She's certainly unaware that it is a mutation. The cause of her confidence is irrelevant, so psychic manipulation and drugs are very effective at boosting her abilities. From her time being part of various drug gangs, including an unsuccessful time as a leader... (More)

Story of the Winter Season: Ellie and the Ziggurat

Unknown forces try to have Tiger White killed in prison
Unknown forces try to have Tiger White killed in prison

“We have been informed that Prisoner Ellie Stoneberg has been moved from the Hero section of the Prison to the general population. This is unacceptable and dangerous, and the Unity Vigil's lawyers have already been contacted. We wish to be let in to provide her protection, or at least escort her to somewhere safe." The lead Vigilant had a pleasant, mid-western accent, but its words were effectively demands and the guards were having none of it.

"I'm sorry, but unless you've got authorisation, I can't permit you access to the building, especially armed. You're going to have to leave the premises, immediately." The guard who spoke appeared to have no higher rank than the others, but Seven pulled his employment records and determined that his pay scale corresponded to that of a shift squad leader. He would be the one to talk to initially. The man's face flickered through a state of mild shock as a mid-height woman in a grey jumpsuit appeared to materialise before him holding up a PPD ID badge...(More)
