Born in Independence Port and raised in the Chinese community, Xiao Chen started displaying remarkable physical traits and agility already from when she was a little girl.

After watching her older brother practising Kung Fu, the little Xiao Chen was inspired to also take up the martial arts. Her natural talent, coupled with intense training and a strong sense of discipline allowed her to achieve quite impressive results. At the same time, she busily trained herself in ballet, gymnastics and swimming.

Growing up, Xiao Chen found herself increasingly apalled by the constant crimes and violence openly perpetrated in the tough harbour area of her upbringing.

To make matters worse, the young Xiao Chen found her beloved and much admired older brother being drawn to the allure of gang violence.

Her brother was recruited by the Tsoo and quickly started making a name for himself and rising in their ranks.

As the weeks passed by, Xiao Chen found her brother changing and becoming more and more alienated from her.

One evening, on her way back from ballet practise, Xiao Chen stopped to buy flowers for her parents.

Just as she was about to leave, a gang of thugs entered, intent on mugging the shopkeeper. The rage having built up inside Xiao Chen over all the violence and the misfortune of her beloved brother finally exploded, and with her one hand still holding and protecting the flowers she had just purchased, she found herself engaging, and easily defeating and subduing the would-be muggers.

Next day in the papers, there was an article about the mysterious girl who had courageously engaged a gang of muggers armed only with a bundle of lotus flowers.

The article headline queried the identity of "the mysterious Lotus girl X"

Upon reading the article, Xiao Chen decided that the time had come for her to devote her skills into battling the crime and injustice she seemed to encounter on every street corner.

With her usual determination, she quickly designed a costume and mask, and thus - taking her name from the headline of the newspaper article - the masked vigilante Lotus X was born.

Soon, Lotus X had managed to make quite a name for herself in the Independence Port "Chinatown", and especially whenever Xiao Chen's brother was about to get himself into trouble, Lotus X would turn up and thwart his plans, much to the annoyance of the brother and his fellow gang members, who were beginning to see this young, masked girl vigilante as a true menace.

Then, suddenly Xiao Chen's parents both went missing.

Devastated, Xiao Chen as herself and in her guise of Lotus X searched everywhere for clues to what might have happened to them, pleading in vain for her brother to help.

Lotus is currently following possible leads into her parents disappearance, one of them taking her to the Rogue Isles to look into some allegedly shady business activities carried out by the vanished father's employer - the nefarious businessman and politician Mr. Chang - and also a possible connection between Mr. Chang and a group of rogue circus artists.

During her search in the Rogue Isles, Xiao Chen has been aided by a woman called Melanie Yang, a girl called Shadow Whisper, and further by a mysterious black-clad woman calling herself Ms. Nagasaki. These helpers apparently also seem to be carrying a grudge against the shady Mr. Chang.

So far, Lotus' efforts have been fruitless, and the quest to find her parents remains her main motivation.

Frustratingly, her brother refuses to help, and even lets on that he might know a thing or two about their parents' disappearance.

Xiao Chen keeps a secret diary in which she notes down her inner-most thoughts and emotions, and protocols her adventures as Lotus X.

She keeps the diary and her costumes hidden away in a secret compartment at the back of her closet. She made the fake wall herself.

Xiao Chen has a pet canary called "Sugar". It likes to rest on her shoulder when she is studying. She dreams of one day having a horse or pony.

Xiao Chen is a good student, popular with her teachers and especially good with languages. She is relatively popular with her classmates, but has few close friends.

Xiao Chen's favourite singer is Fei Wong. She loves to read Jane Austen and loves watching Hong Kong action movies.

Xiao Chen loves dressing up and loves the stage. In addition to her ballet, she never misses an opportunity to take part in the school plays. She sometimes uses her acting and dressing-up talents for investigative and undercover purposes. In her time, she has passed herself off as a nun, a Japanese exchange student, a nurse, a punker, a social worker and even as a biker. Her most recent assignment involves using her gymnastic and acrobatic skills to go undercover in a circus.

She has a secret admirer sending her flowers and poetry. She thinks it must be someone from her class.

She works after school in a grocery store to earn the money to finance her heroic exploits.
