[edit] Overview

Inago is my first City of Heroes character and my favourite. In beta he was originally called Hopper, although that was a crappy name so I decided to change it, alter his concept a great deal and make him Japanese. Unfortunately, due to my clumsiness I made him extremely short. He was meant to be around 5ft 7" and not 4ft 2". As you guessed, I like Spider-man and that is why I created an insect hero. Inny was supposed to be a very heroic character, however his involvement with the Cirque and others have changed his personality an awful lot. After all, he's still young and can be easily influenced. I didn't design Inago to be a powerful hero and most of his power comes from his training and experience more than natural abilities.

[edit] Affiliations

Supergroup: Cirque de la Lune (His "family")

Former Supergroups: Chess Club, New Heroes Union, Kamikaze Kommandos.

Family: Was formerly the adopted son of Mileena Lim. Inago is now under care of the Cirque de la Lune. His real parents were murdered by Danil Kaar (Inny's uncle) and their identity is unknown as he had changed his name illegally. This made himself untraceable as well as making it impossible for any details of the parents to be found. Kyo also has a cousin named Ellia Willis and an older half-sister (father's daughter) called Hikaru Takeshi. He has lost contact with both of them.

Friends: Has officially dated 2 heroines. Bluestrike and Pyranha. Although he has been involved with a couple more. Some of his best and most trusted friends (outside of the Cirque) are Veskit, Fridan, Minako and Doctor Temporis.

(Too many friends to list them all)

[edit] Personality

Kyo's personality varies greatly depending on the situation he's in. Generally, in a social situation he is cheeky, outgoing and a bit silly. He can be very noisy, is often easily excited and has a short fuse, meaning that he is very quick to anger. When in battle he often cracks jokes and makes quotes from his favourite TV shows. However, if he is angry in battle he often only speaks in Japanese and can have quite a cold and uncaring personality.

Inago can be extremely caring and selfless or sometimes just downright selfish and childish. Sometimes his behaviour could be described as borderline psychotic. At times it seems like he has a split personality or just two very different sides to the same person. This is probably because he was a child who was forced to grow up far too quickly and had to deal with things that he wasn't ready for. He is extremely tenacious person and won't give up.

[edit] Motivation

Kyo would do anything to save the city from the criminals. That includes killing them so they'll never do anything wrong again. He would do anything to protect the Cirque and all its members, as well as anyone he loves too. He is scared of loosing anyone he cares about and tries desperately to stop that from happening. In essence, he is a vigilante with a heroes license.

Inago has an insect carapace that can cover his body in order to protect himself from danger. In addition to this he has super senses, can leap over vast distances (with help from his wings), and has enhanced strength/speed/agility. Even though his senses are already very sensitive, they are improved further when he is in his insect form.

When his carapace is active, his super senses include an acute sense of smell which can pick out a chosen scent and track it to a distance of up to 6 miles. His sight allows him to zoom in and focus on distant object easily and he can see things in the dark as well as he could in daylight. The antennae on his head pick up vibrations in the air and transfer it into sounds that he can hear. This acts as an early warning sense so Inago knows when danger is coming before it's actually there.

It is rumored that he can also converse with grasshoppers and use them to talk over long distances. However, this has never been proven and could just be an exaggeration.

Every now and again he goes into metamorphosis. This happened when he gained his insect carapace, when the carapace changed, when he grew wings and when his wings evolved further.

In addition to his insect powers, Inago can communicate with the rest of the Cirque de la Lune through the use of the "Cirque Mind".

[edit] Abilities

Inago has trained in a unique form of martial arts of the same name. The fighting style utilizes the legs only for both attacking and defending. It concentrates on the power of the legs. During the time that he lived on the streets he learnt how to pick locks and pickpocket in order to survive. He can also speak both Japanese and English fluently.

[edit] Vulnerabilities

Inago has the same vulnerabilities as any human. Contrary to popular belief, bug spray and other bug killing agents are not more effective against him than any other regular person. Due to his super hearing he can sometimes be hurt by sudden loud noises if he is not prepared for them. Also, threats to those he cares about will often cause him to stumble or make mistakes.

[edit] Equipment

He uses no special equipment due to relying on his own skills instead. He will however equip himself with anything that is needed for a particular task. The only thing he really carries with him is his mobile phone.

[edit] Character History

Kyo was born on 17th December 1989, in a small mountain village in Japan that still followed the old traditional ways of the country. Mysteriously, the child was born with powers that were magic in origin. His uncle was Danil Kaar, a retired hero from Paragon City who had lost his powers and spent his days training others in his dojo within the village. During his fifth year of life, Kyo started to display his powers. Seeing that the youngster had similar abilities to the ones he had lost, Danil became convinced that the child had stolen them from him. He tried to take Kyo from his parents, but they resisted and were murdered in cold blood. He managed to frame another villager for the murders and took the kid as his own.

Kyo was trained as an assassin by his uncle from an early age, sending him out on numerous missions to kill gang leaders, diplomats and many other types of people with power. Some of these tasks changed his life completely (See Inago/Failure). He was never rewarded for being successful and was always harshly punished for any failures through torture or simple beatings. Training included Kyo having his hands tied behind his back for days so he would learn not to rely on them as the Inago fighting style that Danil taught concentrated on the power of the legs. This made eating and other simple things extremely hard to do, so the child would sometimes starve or even have to sleep in his own filth. The regime was harsh and unforgiving, but it allowed him to hone his abilities like never before. He was also taught how to speak both English and Japanese, however he was never given access to books to read or taught how to write. The source of his power was never discovered and they were dismissed as a spiritual gift.

On the 23rd May 2002, he helped to defend Japan from the Rikti in the first war. His main base of operations was in and around Tokyo, and he was present as the first Rikti ship was downed in Japan. He was shocked to see how brutal war could be and spent the majority of his time protecting civilians from the ground troops. This was his first encounter with the Rikti, but certainly not the worst or last.

Over the years that followed, Danil became increasingly paranoid and thought that the boy knew the truth about his parents murder. He believed the child was plotting his revenge. So he tried to kill Kyo (on his 15th birthday, 17th December 2004) and failed, resulting in what was thought to be his own death. Wanted by the police for murder (a charge which has now been dropped), Kyo had to flee the country and stowed away on a boat heading to America.

On the 20th October 2005, he ended up in Paragon City where he saw he could use his powers for the protection of innocents and so Kyo became the hero known as Inago (Grasshopper), the same name as his fighting style. As he had no family name, he chose one for himself. From now on he would have the last name Ikeda and he would finally have his own true identity. Shortly after his arrival he joined the Kamikaze Kommandos, before moving over to the New Heroes Union. He lived on the streets for months until he was taken in by Mileena Lim.

Mileena adopted him officially (changing his family name to Lim) and Inago lived with her and Tigergirl in her own dimensional home. They helped him achieve his heroes license and citizenship too. He was now a US citizen and could stay in the country indefinately. Kyo made a large amount of friends in the city and for a while he was quite popular. He met quite a few people at the Galaxy Girl statue in Galaxy City, a place he used to frequent an awful lot before Pocket D opened.

Unfortunately, this new life was almost destroyed when he discovered that Danil Kaar was still alive. The people of his old village had been massacred by the insane man who had now regained his powers. He had mutated into a terrifying blend of human and insect. Danil had been watching the boy for weeks and decided to lure him back to his homeland and set a trap. Kyo returned to Japan to face his uncle and kill him in one of the bloodiest fights of the boys life. Although it was not over as Danil's spirit possessed Kyo's body.

It was around that that time that Inago met Lord Jest er. With his and Mileena's help the evil spirit of his uncle was driven from Inny's body and destroyed. It was then that Kyo decided to become a member of the Cirque de la Lune. This caused tensions between him and his mother, which ended up with her disowning him and them going their separate ways (Inny changed his name back from Lim to Ikeda to spite her). Their relationship had never been that stable anyway, with more than their fair share of arguments and misunderstandings. His relationships with Molok, Legend, Miss Ellie, Grav Mistress and Quantum Seraphim were also irreparably damaged as time moved on and he became more deeply involved with the Cirque's inner workings. Kyo was now a fully fledged Clown and slowly rose up the ranks until he was a Harlequin, one of the highest achievable positions. He moved into the Cirque Base where he has lived ever since. Inny has lead the Cirque in to battle on quite a few occasions and became Jest er's most trusted confidant and friend.

Inago had dated Bluestrike after failed relationships with Thunder Bee and several other heroines. The relationship went very well and was becoming quite serious until she vanished for months without a word. After searching for her and not finding a trace, Kyo believed that he had lost her forever. A romance soon blossomed between him and a young heroine named Pyranha. Not long after, Doctor Temporis discovered Bluestrike in a pocket dimension where she had become lost whilst teleporting. Hardly any time had passed for her at all. She was eventually freed, but came back to see Kyo and Pyr deeply in love. It was awkward for them all at first, but she decided to move on and stayed friends with them both.

Inago has had many adventures in the City of Heroes. He has travelled through time, been to different dimensions where he had to fight himself and has battled against countless other foes. Nothing is beneath him and he has been known to help fight fires, prevent bank robberies and even stop petty muggings. On the other end of the scale he has helped save the world, fought several giant monsters and squared up against some of the worlds most notorious villains. He has worked with members of several other groups including: Akkarin, Veskit and others from the Fletched Alliance, Coile and the Silent Tempest, Doctor Temporis and the Guardians of Destiny, Zortel and The Vigil, Pinkinatrix and the Darkwings, Spearmint and many, many more.

Kyo is a veteran of the Requiem War (Summer 2006), where he had to fight against friends and family who had been corrupted by Requiem's power. He led a small army of Dark Clowns against Rikti forces in Perez Park, which ended up with most of the zone being razed to the ground. He was also present and played a large part in the protection of Doctor Temporis' underground lab and the final battle against Requiem himself. He was devasted by the death of Molok (who has since returned) and several others.

Since then he has also accidentally been sent back into the past by one of Doctor Temporis' machines to fight in the Battle of Sekigahara (21st October 1600) where he was joined by Pyranha and became the legend known as Kamakiri (Praying Mantis). Strangely enough, this was a hero that he had learnt about as a child and the one who had originally taught the fighting style that he now used. Inny found it baffling that he had been the hero he had always been told about and the very person he had grown up wanting to be. He had arrived in the time period, over a month before the actual battle and became a respected member of the community. He was given his own troops to lead as he had proven himself several times over. Unfortunately, the side he fought on was betrayed and lost, but he managed to protect the remaining troops as they retreated. Moments after rescuing his men, Inago and Pyr were whisked back through time to arrive back where they had started. They were declared lost and dead by the people they had left behind in the past.

All these battles left him with many scars, both physical and mental. As time went by and he became a little distant from friends. The amount of horrors he'd seen, the people that had died and the things he'd survived were all negatively affecting him. Even though he always managed to put on a brave face, inside he was a child screaming for help. Some of the atrocities that the Cirque committed in secret didn't disgust him anymore. In fact, he was starting to commit them himself. This was only noticed by those closest to him. To acquaintances and the general public, he was the same hero he had always been.

In December 2006 (just after Christmas), Kyo disappeared for 8 months leaving Pyranha behind. He was unable to tell her about where he was going and was unsure if he would ever be able to return, so he made excuses (to try and ease her pain and help her move on, he told her that he was gay). Upon his return on the 22nd July 2007, it was discovered that he had been fighting in the Cirque/Carnie Transdimensional war (the war still continues as there are a few pockets of Carnie resistance left). The Cirque de la Lune had found a planet full of the Carnival of Shadows and were determined to cleanse them from existence. During the final battles, he stumbled across the Rikti homeworld as he pursued a group of Carnies. It was there that he learnt about the imminent second invasion and unsuccessfully tried to warn his friends. The leader of this group of Carnies, named Camilla Valentine, escaped to Earth through another portal. Inago followed to try and capture her, but ended up being distracted by the invading Rikti. He was also distraught to see that Pyr had become romantically involved Samuel Blayne.

Inago fought bravely in the Second Rikti War which began on the 23rd July 2007. However, like all the previous wars he lost many people that he was close to, including his favourite Dark Clown, Frolic who died on the 3rd August in a large battle (See Inago/Blood and Confetti). This was said to have pushed him over the edge as he fought back against the Rikti with no compassion or remorse.

On the 10th August, Inago set out on a crusade across Paragon City to bring Frolic back to life with the belief that she had been stolen from him. He fought through masses of the Circle of Thorns, Tsoo, Hellions, Skulls and Carnies to find out how he could resurrect her. He stole an ancient artifact (The Netherstone) and an old spellbook (The Book of Renewal) from MAGI so that he could bring Frolic's life force back to her body and eventually managed to convince Doctor Temporis to provide portal technology to allow him to travel to the hell dimension where she was held. With a small troupe of Dark Clowns and a few of the Doctor's robot inventions, Inago triumphed in the retrieval of Frolic's spirit (On the 23rd August, by trapping it in the Netherstone) and brought it back to her corpse. The Book of Renewal allowed him to place it back within the empty shell of her body. The actual success of the resurrection ritual is unknown.

Unfortunatly, Camilla Valentine, who had now joined with the Earth's Carnival of Shadows, used his rampage to her advantage and framed Kyo for the murder of a hero named Hypnogram, as well the deaths of 5 security guards. A warrant was posted for the Inny's arrest and he was hunted by bounty hunters such as Efranof, Rachis and the black armoured Steel Guard. A failed attempt by Longbow troops to arrest him left 7 men in hospital. Most of his friends had abandoned him in the belief that he had actually killed these people in cold blood. With assistance from Veskit and advice from Doctor Temporis and Minako, Inago managed to capture a weakened Camilla (who is now being held at the Cirque base) as well as gather enough evidence to acquit him of the majority of charges against him. Inago turned himself in (24th August) and is currently being held on charges of assaulting Hero Corp officers and resisting arrest. The investigation into the murders is still ongoing.

  • Has trouble reading and solving mathematical problems due to his lack of education in certain areas.
  • Has very poor handwriting due to lack of practice and draws like a 5 year old.

  • Favorite drink is fruit juice of any kind.
  • Has an extremely large appetite. Similar to that of a real grasshopper.
  • Loves noodles!
  • Is not known for cleaning his room.
  • Uses Allure for Men Bodyspray.
  • Dresses casually when not in his battle armour or insect form. Mostly in green as that is his chosen colour and the colour of the grasshopper. He wears a bandana because of the events in the Inago/Failure story.
  • Inago has fought in 5 wars throughout his life, including the First Rikti War, The Reqiuem War, The Battle of Sekigahara, The Cirque/Carnie Transdimensional War, and the Second Rikti War. This means that he has gained an awful lot of battle experience and he often uses this to his advantage. For several of the wars he needed to travel through time and different dimensions, meaning he has some experience in that as well.
  • His funds come from the Cirque's near limitless supply of money.

The suit included Kevlar Plating, Flame Proof Bodysuit, Gas Mask, Eye Guards/Scanner, Radio Receiver/Transmitter, Utility Belt and Impact Resistant Boots. The previous costumes had been a cheesy spandex number with a large "I" on the chest and hooded robes. A sign of changing tastes and needs.
  • Loves television, music (primarily Heavy Metal), computer games and partying. Just like any other teenager.
  • Has a strong hatred for Rikti and distrusts Kheldians that he doesn't know. This is due to several events where people he cared for were hurt by them.

Battle Scars:

  • 2 infront of right ear.
  • Various small scars on arms and around knuckles.
