GoodGuy wasn't my first City of Heroes character.

Initially I made him as a joke (a Superman spoof) but he quickly grew on me and before I knew it he litterary "took on a life of his own" (Cheezy and cliché I know, but it's how it was). I ran into a SG-member (Britanic) that did some RP in Pocket D (chatting with White Vampyr and High Burn) and I kinda unknowingly got into character on the spot. From that moment I got hooked on RP:ing in CoX.

These days he's undoubtedly my main character and more of a "homage" to Superman.

[edit] Affiliations

[edit] Personality

Friendly and chivalrous. He never tell a lie and treat all sentient beings with equal respect. Until they show that they don't deserve it.

He can be viewed as a bit naïve, but appearances aren't always what they seem.

He almost never loses his temper, but when he does he's frightful to behold.

[edit] Motivation

Early in his career he operated mainly out of a sense of duty paired with a touch of guilt for his father's death.

These days he has seen firsthand what kind of threats Earth is facing, and he really wants to save this planet with all life on it.

[edit] Powers

GoodGuy's powers are a natural part of his inhuman physiology. His appearance is human, but on closer examination the difference is clear.

He grew up at a normal human rate, but now his ageing process seems to have stopped. It's too early to tell but he might be very long-lived.

[edit] Primary Powers

[edit] Invulnerability

He is almost completely invulnerable to physical damage, including most energies, toxins and diseases. He can also operate in the total vacuum and cold of deep space for some time without ill effects

Resist Physical Damage, Temp Invulnerability, Dull Pain, Resist Elements, Unyielding, Resist Energies, Invincibility, Tough Hide, Unstoppable

[edit] Secondary Powers

[edit] Super Strength

His strength is superhuman and he is able to lift aproximately 100 metric tons and can easily punch a hole through a foot of reinforced steel. Although while fighting humans he hold his punches so he wont kill them.

Jab, Haymaker, Hand Clap, Knockout Blow, Rage, Foot Stomp, Taunt, Hurl

[edit] Additional Powers

[edit] Flight

In the atmosphere he can fly at speeds up to Mach 3 (2310 mph), but he never do in habitated areas since his ability to maneuvre at that speed is limited to say the least.

Outside of the atmosphere it's considerably higher.

Air Superiority, Flight

[edit] Fitness

He has an inhumanly good physiology.

Swift, Health, Stamina

[edit] Energy Mastery

Since he learned about his Arcosian legacy he's been able to tap into hitherto unknown reserves of energy and even to focus some of that energy into beams of heat from his eyes.

Conserve Power, Laser Beam Eyes

[edit] Abilities

  • His senses are extremely keen. He can hear sub- and ultrasonic sounds, see ultraviolet light (but not infrared!) and has the olfactory capacity equivalent to a cat.
  • Due to his inhumanly good metabolism, he's unable to get drunk by ethanol.
  • He has a very good knowledge of the History and Geography of Paragon City.
  • He can drive cars, motorcycles and heavy machinery like tractors and combine-harvesters.
  • He can read Braille script.

[edit] Vulnerabilities

Eventhough his body is extremely tough, his mind is not equally tenacious. Lately he has developed an unyielding, stubborn resistance to psionic influence. He wont yield but he still get damaged.

Another weakness is magic. It's the same thing as with psionics. Eventhough his physical form is nigh indestructible, it is still damaged by direct magic.

[edit] Equipment

Nothing but his suit. He do have a couple of different suits though.

His original red and grey suit was destroyed during the Riot in the Row, but his friend Britanic fixed him up with a new one made out of Polymorphic Fibre Weave.

During the first stages of the Second Rikti Invasion he got himself a more durable suit made out of an Impervium-weave. Not as much for its protection as from its ability to stay whole.

[edit] Character History

[edit] Origin

Where to begin? At the beginning of course, but when is that? I can’t remember. What I do remember is a bright light and a roaring sound. And then a huge crash. But why? I do not know.

Anyway! I know that I’m an orphan. My parents told me that when I was (presumably) seven years old. Not my real parents obviously, but rather the nice couple that found and raised me. They found me one evening in May when they were sitting on the shore of a lake, looking at the sunset. Suddenly they noticed the body of an infant, floating face down, among the reeds. They ran to rescue it but knew it would be too late. When they picked him up he began to cry, and gave them quite a shock. They never did report the incident to the authorities (they couldn’t say why) but rather told them that Mary (my mother) had given birth to me. So I am legally their son. As far as the government is concerned anyway.

I then grew up on their farm, as any other boy would do. Giving a helping hand when they thought I could manage, running errands, hunting rabbits and rats. You know. The usual. But one day when I was seven I did something unusual. I survived.

Joseph (my father) was taking out the combine-harvester on to the fields, not noticing me amongst the wheat, and ran me over. The machine almost broke when I got jammed in the cutters. It did break when I freed myself, tearing the metal apart with my bare fists.

That night they told me that I was an orphan.

I couldn’t quite grasp it. And the concept of being something other than human… well I was only seven. I’d never suspected that I was something other than their son. I’d never tried to lift something heavier than my parents thought I could handle. I’d never wrestled with anybody. There were no other kids around. I’d never hurt myself. Now that I think of it that should’ve been a clue. Of course I’ve had my share of falls and stepping on rusty nails, but I had never been hurt and had never seen my own blood!

Gradually, and with the help of my father, I grew up with a clear view of who I was and what I should do with my life. I remember him saying:

“Son, you can punch a hole through a concrete wall and throw a car. Imagine what you could do to a human being. You’ve come here for a purpose and I think that the purpose is to protect those weaker than you and to help those in need. Be a good guy!”

So when I grew up I became just that.

I kept a low profile in school and never caused any trouble. The other boys (of course) noticed so they bullied and made fun of me, but I always kept calm. On the outside at least. It was a hard time. I cried in my room at night, cursing my destiny. I just wanted a normal life.

Time went by. The bullies still tried to hurt me but I shrugged it off, knowing that they couldn't do a thing to me. My powers grew every year and by my sixteenth birthday I could lift the combine-harvester without breaking a sweat and a shotgun blast just gave me a bad breath (yes, I put the barrel in my mouth and pulled the trigger). By and by I learned to cope with it all.

I moved to Paragon City to study history at the University. Finally I was at peace. No bullies and a blessed anonymity. Everything was perfect. But it wouldn't last.

My father paid me a visit one day. Just to see if everything was alright. I showed him some of the wonders of the city, Atlas statue, the Arena, Talos Islands, the works. We ate at a great restaurant in Founders Falls. It was a good day. We were on our way back when some gangers suddenly ambushed us. (I now know they were Hellions, but I didn't know it then.) They attacked us savagely with sledgehammers, shotguns and knives. I fought them ferociously with everything I got, but it was to late. By the time they were down or fleeing, my father was dead. I couldn't save him. I was too slow. Too weak. Powerless.

It took me a full year to recover from the trauma. My mother never blamed me, but I did (and I always will). When I finally came through, I noticed all the heroes of Paragon and knew that I would become one of them. I would do everything in my power to prevent something similar to happen ever again. I remembered my father’s words and decided that I would become: The GoodGuy. Protector of Innocents!

[edit] Roaming the streets

From the beginning he was just roaming the city on his own, arresting petty criminals, but then he got introduced to a group of "heroes" that mainly was after a good time. Dissapointed by their lack of heroism he left at the first opportunity.

That opportunity presented itself when he met the heroine Jessica Raven. She was one of the leaders of the Paragon City Protectors and he instantly felt that he had found what he was looking for!

In this group there also was a hero named Britanic that quickly became his best and most trusted friend.

[edit] Protecting Paragon City

After he got introduced into the PCP his heroic career literary took to the sky. He foiled numerous villainous plots, helped to stop the big riot in Kings Row and even took down the mighty Clockwork Paladin.

He came into contact with the Hyperion Watchmen and helped then uncover some information regarding the circumstances of their origin.

During his work with the Watchmen he fell in love with the heroine called High Burn and the two of them became a couple and after only half a year they got married.

GoodGuy's deeds started to make their way to the headlines and he got noticed by other heroic groups. He got invited to join the Vanguard and was a part of the group that took down the Rikti warboss during the second Rikti invasion.

He eventually started to work with Portal Corps to defend the Earth from extra-dimensional threats.

[edit] Guarding the Earth

He recently discovered who he really is and where he come from. He travelled to the planet of Arcosia with his friend FredEx to find out if there was anything left of that old civilisation.

Unfortunately the civilisation was dead, but they found an old space-station that was still operational. They managed to hook the station's powerplant into FredEx's teleportation matrix and travelled home with the station. It's now in a geo-stationary orbit over Paragon City.

After he got back to Earth he started the group Guardians of the Earth and is using the old Arcosian space-station as a base.

[edit] Fiction

[edit] Plotmonkey

Feel free to involve him in your plots (but DO send me a PM on the forum or an email in-game first).

He occasionally works for the Paragon City Museum as a guide to the various historical spots all around the city. His historical and geographical knowledge of Paragon City is very good. Almost on par with Doc Delilah's. He is also very knowledgeable about the different dimensions that Portal Corps have discovered.
