"Flaming Kid" is an apt name which was given to Kip Carrington by his lover Deepcut. Not only is he a pyromaniac but if he knows (and likes) you then he has the uncanny habit of knowing just how to get on your nerves at the time you really would rather he just shut up.

Kip Carrington was born 23 years ago in the tidy streets of Founders Falls, Paragon City. The youngest child of the wealthy Carrington family who had interests in industry and commerce he was assured of a life of luxury. The young Kip has a rebellious streak though and took delight in pushing the tolerance of his strait-laced parents to its limits. They thought his announcement at the age of 14 that he was queer (he used to term to shock and insult them) was nothing more than a ruse – it was only after they found him and the gardener (twice his age) in bed that they realised he had actually been telling the truth. The gardener was sacked and Kip sent off to a boarding school.

Little did his parents know that the boarding school was probably the best place Kip could have wanted to have been sent. He fell in with a gang of other boys who were poor little rich kids and they started to dabble in the occult. Kip showed most promise in this area – being the only one who actually managed to cause the black candles to spurt into flame upon command. The rest of the gang soon moved on to the next exciting diversion putting Kip's mastery of lighting candles down to no more than trickery. Kip however was intrigued by this fledgling elemental mastery and used his considerable access to wealth to obtain greater texts and even a grimoire dedicated to elemental fire.

The thirst of magical knowledge and power took over him by the time he turned 16. He left school one night to return to Paragon City, intent on locating the infamous Circle of Thorns and learning from them. It took him over a year to actually make contact with someone who knew more than base rumours about the mages and Kip arranged a meeting in a shady cinema in Kings Row. He took his seat towards the back of the cinema as he has been told and soon enough a man dressed some form of long coat or cloak walked through the darkness and sat next to him. Kip was not prepared for what came next, the glint of metal caught his eye and the stranger made a lunge towards him brandishing some form of dagger. In shock and desperation Kip unleashed a mighty conflagration, the man was engulfed in flames as were the seats around him. In a matter of moments the fire had spread and the auditorium erupted in panic with people running for the exits. Kip however was unharmed by the flames but dropped into unconsciousness, drained of whatever energy the attack had used.

He awoke in a cell to find himself charged with arson and the manslaughter of one John Doe. His father of course tried to talk his son into using one of the family lawyers to hush up the whole messy business but Kip told him where to go and what to do with his stinking family. He was sentenced to ten years in the Ziggurat for the crime of unleashing an unlawful magical discharge resulting in the destruction of private property valued at $1M and the death of one John Doe.

His first day in prison was a terrifying experience for Kip. Although he was only 17 years old he was put in with the older prisoners and he soon found he wise retorts to comments about his fresh face and needing someone to cuddle him at night did not have the same effect as they would have amongst the more refined social circles he had been used to. One man in particular struck Kip as being the most scary – a grey skinned hulk of a brute who stormed around bare chested in leather jeans and boots and evidently all the other prisoners and even guards deferred to him. He was told by a fellow inmate over his first lunch that the man was Deepcut and what he said was the law in this part of the Zig. Kip could not help but notice that each time he glanced over at the brutal looking man that his eyes (one milky white with a wicked scar) were looking right at him.

The moment he was dreading soon came that evening when he had to enter the shower block. Despite being gay and having had a few experiences (mostly with older men) he was not prepared for the seven thugs which crowded around him whistling and trying to grab him as he tried in vain to fend off their unwelcome advances. A bestial roar caused them to instantly stop, look around and then hurry out of the shower block. Deepcut stood there, his hands transformed into sharp talons and a look of pure murder on his face. “This is it”, thought Kip “he's going to rape and then kill me.” He backed away from the man as he slowly approached and ducked as Deepcut picked up the threw something towards him. The towel slapped landed on his head and a deep voice told him to put it on, pick up his things and follow him. He did as he was told, walking closely behind the man who towered two feet over him in height and his muscular frame must have been twice as wide as his boyish one.

They walked into a cell which did not have a set of bunks in it but a normal bed instead. “I'll get the rest of your stuff brought over – you're stopping with me now kid” was the only thing he said as pointed to the bed. Kip knew that his saviour wanted a reward, he dropped the towel and climbed under the sheets.

Kip had never experienced anyone or anything like Deepcut. Rather than being brutal with him which he (and others he later spoke to) had expected, the man was caring, protective and in time loving. He started to call Kip that flaming kid who is screwing with my head. Kip leaped upon the name and adopted it as his own – it reminded him of his power and also the man who he had grown to love.

[edit] On leaving the Zig

The Kid and Deepcut got split up when they escaped from the Zig during a mass breakout. It was six months until they found each other in the club known as Pocket D. In the sort time they had been apart the Kid noticed a marked change in Deepcut - he appeared more bestial which he actually thought was much more attractive. Deepcut confided that he was walking between two worlds but now his anchor to humanity had returned.

The Kid has set up home in a Mercy Island squat, doing work for other - he is not fussy about what. He even makes a bit on the side running errands for a few of the followers of Arachnos or other shady characters. Deepcut often spends the night with him but his partner made it clear that his work needed to be kept away from the Kid. He accepts this but he dearly wants to prove himself capable to standing alongside his more powerful lover and see him get drenched in the blood he so often washed off his muscular body.

The Kid is also seeking some form of mentors for his magical studies. People seem to be tight lipped and unwilling to tell if an order of magicians exists but he will continue looking.

The Kid knew the day would come when Deepcut would finally lose his battle against his vampiric nature. Love though has a crazy way of interfering and it was the Kid himself who gently forced his almost maddened with pain lover to drink from his young neck. The Kid clung to Deepcut and felt the fangs bite into his neck. He cried out, not in pain but with intense pleasure as his most precious gift was willingly consumed.

Deepcut though was not willing to drain or turn his lover. He took only that which he needed but this still left the Kid severely weakened. It was then that Deepcut bit down upon his own tongue as he kissed the Kid. He forced the Kid to drink the blood cascading into his mouth and the pair of them were in rapture as their memories, desires and thoughts merged for a while.

This blood kiss strengthened the Kid and they repeated the kiss each night after Deepcut had fed upon one of the dregs of humanity. The Kid and Deepcut are now bound by the blood. The Kid is oblivious to the fact that Deepcut knew that making him a ghoul was the only way to preserve their love (has the Kid been turned then he would no longer have been the person Deepcut loved).\

Briefly: Can be thought of as a bit of a flirt with the cheeky streak but is actually in a strictly monogamous relationship with Deepcut.

[edit] Magical Abilities

The Kid is able to summon, control and manipulate elemental fire. He is able to encase foes in fire as well as shoot flames at them. He is able to control who or what is damaged by the elemental fire - proven by his normally fire wary lover Deepcut suffering no ill effects whatsoever when entrapped within a pillar of fire.

The blood bond with Deepcut has given the Kid a limited telepathic link with his vampiric master. Both know the direction and rough distance the other is from them. They are also able to sense each others moods. Deepcut is able to communicate to the Kid through this bond but the Kid lacks the ability to respond (though as Deepcut can sense the mood of the Kid he is able to tell when his blood servant and lover is in mortal peril.

As long as the Kid continues to get a regular supply of the dark blood from any vampire then he will not age. As he is still actually quite young this is not too much of an issue at the moment.

Very skilled in PC usage, net research and hacking. He is (for his age) a bit of an expert in the occult as far as elemental fire is concerned.

[edit] Vulnerabilities

A large body of water, rain or a shower are the downfall of the Kid. These render him unable to summon the elemental fire.

As he has now become a ghoul he is addicted to vampiric blood, in particular that of his lover and master Deepcut. He is able to go for more than a week without suffering any physical effects - the pleasure the act of drinking from his master does cause the Kid to try and make this a daily experience.

His ultra portable laptop is never far away - with that he can get just about anything else he (or his master) desires.

[edit] Trivia

The Flaming Kid is modelled (his head and general attitude) on the little known hero Riot from the equally little known film Stonewall and Riot.

The character is played by the same player as Deepcut though this is on a different account (hence his lack of trenchcoat at the moment). He shall be increasing in power (level) slowly unlike that of Deepcut but this is really in keeping with the plan. The Kid needs to research, study and gain mastery of new powers whereas Deepcut finds his powers naturaly developing all of the time now. They do not do missions together and are only seen at the same time when they meet up at Pocket D or for some other role playing incident.
