Eleven is a young martial arts warrior, who's only purpose in existence seems to be to fight. In particular to fight anyone looking to disrupt the lives of law abiding citizens, or threats to the very existence of the planet. Eleven has been a character concept that I have had in my mind ever since the age of 12. He was originally created as a character concept in the Mortal Kombat universe for a competition I entered in a gaming magazine for the chance to win a Mortal Kombat II arcade machine. While I didn't win the competition, the character concept stayed in my mind. However it is only after years of maturity do I now feel like the concept is more complete and can be considered an acceptable concept character (ie not Mary Sue!). While the character's primary universe is still Mortal Kombat, I have also drawn up a number of story ideas that place the character in the universe of Doctor Who and more specifically Torchwood, which I a am a big fan of. He is also based off characters such as The Punisher and Batman whom I am also a fan of. City of Heroes was not a game I was originally interested in, but when looking more into the character creation possibilities of the game, and wanting something to tide me over until the release of Mortal Kombat Armageddon, I gave the game a chance. I was finally able to create this character concept and actually have him move and interact in character. I have been hooked ever since and have expanded the character's concept to include the universe of City of Heroes.

[edit] Affiliations

Eleven is currently working with The Dunelm Group, a small band of individuals that came together in his home city of Durham with the original purpose to protect the City from danger.

Eleven has also been affiliated with the following organizations:

  • Durham City Police
  • Wu Shi Academy
  • Outerworld Investigation Agency
  • Torchwood

[edit] Personality

Eleven appears to be in a constant state of anger and rage, brought about by the trauma of his rather tragic past and anger at himself at the choices he feels he made that has led him to the point he is at now. He is always seen with a scowling look of anger on his face. This never changes, except for when in battle. In battle he shows a face worthy enough to express just how much unyielding rage he has within him. As such, he is seen as being a brutal and savage fighter.

While this can be seen to give him an advantage in battle by creating fear in his opponents, it does however greatly affect his social status. Eleven feels that due to what happened to his family, his choice of lifestyle and being immortal, he can not afford to allow himself to get close to anyone to save himself and others from further despair. And because of his warrior lifestyle, he has somewhat of a one track mind. If something does not involve resolving the issue in combat, then it does not get Eleven's attention.

As such, his general attitude usually does what he wants to happen and keeps people away from him as they do not like how un-friendly he can be.

Some however persist to try and break the wall Eleven builds around himself and on rare occasions they can actually become somewhat of a friend. Any woman trying to spark any kind of love interest in him however only seem makes Eleven's rage worse, suggesting that he no longer has any sort of love in his soul.

Ironically enough, Eleven does need to have at least someone around him that can offer some form of leadership to him. Because he blames himself for why way his life has turned out, he is unable to make any choices for himself. Usually when an event such as a simple mugging occurs then he will take action without thought as its a simple case of following his chosen purpose of defending the innocent. Other matters though that would require more thought and making a choice distresses Eleven to the point that he would much rather lash out at everyone, guilty or innocent, that are caught up in the event in order to stop it.

Despite all of this, there are those that still believe that there is a small level of compassion and virtue within Eleven. He is still revered as a hero to the general public of Durham City and those that have been saved by him in other areas of the world. This comes from his clear self sacrifice of having a regular life to use his extra-ordinary abilities to protect the world and charging into what would be considered life threatening circumstances, without question, to save any innocent soul.

[edit] Motivation

Eleven would best come under the category of a Warrior. His motivation is to dedicate his life to the way of combat and to engage in combat to further his training to become master of his chosen martial arts style, as well as trying to prove that he is the strongest warrior of them all. Whether a warrior is seen as a noble warrior or an evil warrior is down to the choices made by that individual on how they use their powers and skills. In the case of Eleven he chooses to be a warrior for the world and protect it from harm. Even though he maybe angry at the choices he made that led to the way he exists now, he is still determined to follow what he believe is his purpose to fight for Earth because he has the ability to do so, and if he does not, there might not be anyone who will.

Due to his tragic past and his personality, Eleven is also motivated by revenge and seemingly not wanting anyone else to turn out like he did.

Contrary to what many believe, Eleven does not look to fight with the aim to kill his foes. Eleven only looks to subdue enemies enough so that they can be taken under arrest by the police and tried for their crimes in a court of law. His thought being that while the courts and jail sentences might not always get the results everyone wants, the manner in which he brought them down should make criminals think twice at doing anything illegal again when they get out. He would say that death is the easy way out for criminals.

However some will still accuse Eleven of being bloodthirsty as he has had no qualms at brutally killing defeated foes in the past. His kills though are ether because certain situations led his foes to an inevitable death, or because he was battling an opponent under the combat rules of The Warrior's Code which demand that the defeated warrior must be "finished off".

[edit] Powers

Eleven does not class himself as a Super Hero. However his abilities and skills are still beyond the physical limitations of a regular human being, and as such is still classified as a Meta Human by authorities. His powers have come through years of dedicated training, pushing his body into the untapped potential human beings have.

NOTE!!!! - Thanks to the server transfer scheme, I have now brought over to Union my original created Eleven which was a Fire Blaster. Keep in mind that when talking about powers to do with Martial Arts, this will be present in the Eleven character, and Fire Manipulation will be found in the character Kusanagi Eleven in the game

[edit] Primary Powers

Martial Arts: Eleven originally trained in a number of martial arts when he was younger as a hobby as he was a big fan of martial arts movies. Eventually, his talent attracted the attention of warriors who were secretly martial artists protecting the earth. Having been convinced to use his skills and talent to help the cause of protecting the earth, Eleven began more serious training in Japan. There he studied 2 fighting styles, Ansatsuken and Kusanagi.

The bulk of his striking attacks stem from the Ansatsuken style, although this style does teach Eleven how to channel his fire wielding abilities into intense, powerful strikes in the form of fireballs. The Kusanagi style was learnt to make use of Eleven's ability to create fire in his hands. While the fire attacks of the Kusanagi style are not as intense as those of the Ansatsuken style, there is more freedom to manipulate the flames into other shapes other than a ball, the only form you can use in the Ansatsuken style.

[edit] Secondary Powers

Super Reflexes: Eleven's training has led to him possessing great speed and agility. Even though his Immortality generally means that he does not need to worry too much about being cut or stabbed when fighting, Eleven still believes the best way to fight is to use his skills to avoid being hit in the first place. That way it frustrates his opponent, opening them up for counter attack.

[edit] Additional Powers

As previously mentioned, Eleven has learnt an ability to create and wield fire from his hands. The reason he creates fire because that is how Eleven imagines what his anger and rage (which fuels the power) to look like. Other warriors can imagine their powers to look like anything, such as water, electricity or another form of energy. The result of imagining it as fire though, does make it have the properties of regular fire such as burning surfaces or enemies when striking with it.

Eleven can also manipulate real fire and turn it into the same type of fire that he would normally create, although this can only be done by placing his hands in the fire. He can not do this if the fire is further than arms length.

[edit] Travel

Eleven's intense and determined martial arts training has allowed him to excel beyond the regular physical capabilities of a regular human. This can be seen in his increased speed and agility. Eleven is able to run at great speeds and jump at great leaps. However while he can run and jump from one end of Paragon City to another without rest, at tremendous speed, he will eventually exhaust himself and need rest.

For greater distances, he has to use the normal human methods of travel. That being car, bus, train or plane. In extreme cases of needing to be in an area of the world quickly, or when traveling to another realm, Eleven will use portals made by technology or magic depending on who he has gone to for assistance.

[edit] Vulnerabilities

Eleven's angry personality and psychological damage caused by events in his past that have been touched upon earlier, can be seen as a major weakness. But there are other more obvious physical weaknesses.

His main weakness is that anyone with psychic or controlling like abilities can easily subdue him. Even a rookie controller can stop Eleven dead in his tracks.

Eleven's Immortality means that of course he is unable to die, and his immortality is powerful enough to prevent him from being cut, stabbed or generally wounded. This has given him a high threshold of pain, but he can still be knocked unconscious from intense attacks that he unable to defend against.

His martial arts training has increased his strength, speed and agility, but he is not super strong. A great weight dropped on him won't kill him due to his immortality but he won't be able to lift it off himself without assistance and chances are the attack will have knocked him out.

He has been known to explode himself out of trouble such as being trapped under a great weight with his fire prowess, however extreme explosions (Such as the Inferno attack) will leave him so exhausted that he is unable to stand and defend himself, so he requires considerable time to recover his energy.

For all of his seemingly great fighting skill and ability, within the circle of Warriors that Eleven is involved with, he is still considered a learner. While he can easily dispatch common thugs and even squads of monsters, demons and aliens, he can be easily defeated by more experienced fighters and warriors.

If Eleven faces an opponent that the Elder Gods demand be fought under the Warriors Code of combat, then Eleven's Immortality will be stripped for the duration of the battle. As a result, if Eleven is defeated he can be killed if his opponent is ordered to finish Eleven off. So far of course Eleven has not been defeated in any contests involving the code. Another drawback is that even though after his victory, Eleven's immortality is returned, any injuries sustained during the fight do not instantly disappear and Eleven needs to allow himself the usual time needed to recover depending on the injury.

[edit] Equipment

Apart from the usual communication devices that are needed during missions, Eleven generally only carries round two weapons.

Edenian Fire Sword – This charred sword was handed to Eleven as a token of appreciation for assisting the Realm of Edenia during struggles shortly after it gained independence from Outworld. The metal of the blade does not exist on Earth, however while it is nigh indestructible itself, it does not have the strength to cut some of the stronger earth based metals. It has a unique property that makes the blade of the sword flammable to the flames that Eleven creates. The blade allows the fire to keep burning until Eleven retracts the flames but the metal does not melt away from the heat.

Throwing Knives – Eleven always carries a number of throwing knives within his jackets for times, as he puts it “When I really want to hurt somebody!”

[edit] Character History

[edit] Early Life

Eleven was born in Durham City, England, although the exact date is now unknown, but it is believed that he is in his late twenties or early thirties. There was nothing special about him at birth, in fact he was just an ordinary child born into a typical working class family.

Growing up he did what any typical boy from his area would do. Hang around with friends and play Football (Soccer) or Cricket, do well enough to complete secondary school and watch movies and play video games.

He did however in his youth become a big fan of Martial Arts movies, watching with awe at the likes of Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Johnny Cage. He would eventually join a number of classes teaching various Martial Arts, making his fandom into a hobby.

The name Eleven was originally a nickname given to him because he always put the number 11 on all of his sport shirts and even his Martial Arts gear. He thought it to be a lucky number as it seemed to come up in everything in his life. His shoe size was 11, his house number, the age he was when he went to a major Cricket match in person for the first time as well as other things.

[edit] Choosing the Warrior life

Eleven eventually became good enough in his Martial Arts to be considered to compete in competitions. He managed to get to a national championship and compete in the final. However he lost the match as he let his temper get the best of him in one round. The resulting penalty would eventually cost him the bout as the match went the distance.

His performance however caught the attention of the events special guest, who was secretly a martial artist warrior, who vowed to protect the Earth. He caught up with Eleven after the event and convinced Eleven to go to Japan to train with an old master at a private academy, secretly located in the mountains away from any of the major towns and cities.

Eleven impressed his new master with his deep respect for all Martial Arts and the potential the young fighter possessed. Eleven though was about to get the shock of his life when he was taught techniques to manifest his anger into flames. Eleven clearly disturbed at what was happening demanded to know what he was really at the academy for.

His master explained of the larger world outside of what Eleven knew of, and the dangers that existed that threatened everything. Eleven was told that he had the potential to become a great warrior and join others to protect the Realm of Earth and all those that lived in it.

Eleven was still freaked out at what he was told, and needed time to meditate over the choices offered to him. To continue a normal life, or use his skills for a greater good. Eventually he came to the conclusion that he now knew too much of the bigger picture and that he now had a responsibility to continue his training and use his powers when a call of help came.

[edit] Becoming Immortal

Eleven continued to head back home to Durham every so often to see his family, who still believed at this point that Eleven was simply part of a typical Martial Arts academy in Japan. However when heading back to his training, Eleven was actually traveling the world and into other realms with his new masters, perfecting his fighting skills as well as learning the way of the warrior.

One particular journey would turn out to have a dramatic consequence to his life. Eleven traveled to the Realm of Seido with one of his masters. They both arrived at a small town that was under an oppressive rule of an Immortal by the name of Set-Sunai. His rule contravened what the Seidian government considered the correct way to rule over the villages, towns and cities of the realm, but this immortal had shown that much power in combat that the Seidian guard were wary of trying and bring him down by force.

To satisfy his ego, Set-Sunai would on occasions offer the chance for anyone to try and beat him in combat. Due to his oppressive rule though, challengers were usually forced into combat rather than volunteering, and of course the challengers were never allowed to progress far in any martial arts training under this rule. On the day Eleven and his master arrived, the Sedian leader was holding such a fighting contest.

As he did before, the immortal beat every challenger with great ease. The only effort he put in was in mocking his beaten foes and the rest of the citizens of his town. Eleven looking on became increasingly angry at what was happening. It came to the point that Eleven could not bare to watch anymore and jumped into the arena to challenge Set-Sunai. At first the immortal laughed at the challenge from a mere mortal from Earth, however Eleven’s sense of sarcasm began to infuriate the leader.

Eleven’s challenge was accepted, but Set-Sunai now keen to show up Eleven, placed his leadership and his own immortality up as a wager, of Eleven was prepared to put his own life on the line too.

At this point Eleven’s master asked the young warrior if he was aware of the choice he was about to make. His master told him that he stood a great chance of beating Set-Sunai, as the Sedian’s over confidence had now clearly affected his skills as a fighter, but that Eleven had to still think about what his actions would lead to.

Eleven didn’t seem to take much notice to the rest of his master’s plea after hearing that his chances of victory were good. He stepped up towards the centre of the arena ready for combat. To the shock of everyone present, Eleven flawlessly defeated the immortal in a matter of minutes.

Soon after the fight ended, the power of the Elder Gods struck down like lightning, transferring the Immortality over from Set-Sunai to Eleven. The towns people burst into celebration. Eleven quickly handed over rule to the grateful Sedian guard who then proceeded to drive the deposed leader and his loyal minions out of the town. Eleven had indeed done good this day, but he would eventually stop believing that his new found Immortality was a helpful gift to his fighting skills. Like most humans who gained Immortality, he would eventually see it as a curse on his life.

[edit] 1995 – When everything changed

With his Immortality, Eleven began to progress further in his training quicker than what would be considered normal. This proved to be a blessing, as the Outworld Invasion of Earth was about to unexpectedly hit. Eleven had just enjoyed a family reunion at his home when returning to his master, the invasion begun.

While the Earth’s mightiest warriors collected together to take on the leaders of the opposing forces head on, Eleven was ordered to assist Earth cause by taking on other forces and help drive them back to Outworld. The invasion was the first time Eleven was truly tested as a warrior, and he proved that he had indeed come a long way from a young boy who only tried out Martial Arts as a hobby.

Somehow, despite Earth seemingly out numbered and under powered, the forces of Outworld were driven back to their realm. The Earth was restored to what it was. But the cost of the battle would be great for Eleven.

He returned to his home in Durham to find his home obliterated, and his entire family annihilated. Eleven’s masters even looked on in horror, as they then determined that even the souls of his murdered family were ripped apart and therefore did not move onto the afterlife. Even though Eleven was a complete unknown warrior to Outworld, it was clear that someone had deliberately targeted an extermination squad to Eleven’s home.

Eleven collapsed to the ground in despair. One of his masters tried to console him, but then Eleven exploded into a fit of rage, attacking his masters claiming that this was all their fault. One of his masters reluctantly knocked Eleven unconscious to stop him from attacking everything that Eleven saw before him.

To this day, Eleven does not know that it was Senshu Hitoku that brought the extermination squad to his home.

[edit] The Aftermath

For a while Eleven based himself in the US as he could not bare to live in his home city. He was stationed at one of the bases of the Outerworld Investigation Agency (OWIA), which was setup shortly after the invasion of Earth. For some time, Eleven locked himself away deep in the base. He refused to make contact with anyone, refused to eat any food offered to him, just simply sit in his room constantly depressed.

One day though the base came under attack from a criminal organization that had a hate filled past with the base commanders. The base would have fallen to the enemy if Eleven did not intervene. When Eleven gathered what was happening, he stood up and powered out of his room. He burst into the base's control room where the bulk of the invading criminals were and stared at them all, showing his now usual face of scowling anger.

Eleven went on to savagely beat down every attacking criminal, saving the base and declaring that this new Eleven would defend the Realm of Earth with a new level of brutality.

Over the years, Eleven continued to use his skills to defend the Earth where it was needed. He also returned to his home city of Durham and became something a local hero.

His warrior life would become more complicated though, when after a recent war in the Realm of Edenia, his old masters began to split away from each other creating rival factions made up of old allies who would now be at war with each other. Eleven of course now unable to make his own choices decided to join with no one and went on a lone mission to watch over the earth.

This only lasted so long when it became clear to him that he needed someone to lead him and make decisions for him. Eventually he made new allies in Dr Brian K Roberts, Brigadier Leon Tasker and Adam Dennison to create The Dunelm Group. The aim of the group to watch over Durham city and the rest of the world and defend the innocent when threatened.

[edit] Present Day

Dr Roberts has decided to move The Dunelm Group to Paragon City to help out with efforts to defend the City and the World from the sudden threats that have all emanated from the City.

Eleven has been taking on everyone within the City that look to cause trouble, but up until the second Rikti Invasions, Eleven’s most sworn enemies has been as expected, The Tsoo and The Warriors. His biggest foe in the City though is Countess Crey herself. After Eleven successfully stopped a number of illegal actives Crey was involved in, The Countess has made it a personal task to stop Eleven. For a month, she did manage to hold Eleven captive with assistance from the Circle of Thorns.

Eventually though he was released thanks to the efforts of his colleague, Adam Dennison. Eleven’s revenge against the agents of Crey was swift and brutal.

Eleven had to wait nearly a year before getting the chance to give The Countess Crey her "receipt" for his imprisonment. Eleven was determined to fight her on his own but would never have achieved victory without a Vanguard psionic blocking device. With the device though, Countess Crey stood no chance against the fighting prowess of Eleven. Eleven brought the Countess to the Police so that she could be arrested under the suspicion of murder. The charges of course never stuck with The Countess and she was released without charge with the charges being successfully prosecuted on Crey staff that were also arrested.

The experience however has forced The Countess to give up her pursuit of Eleven and Crey agents are now ordered to keep away from Eleven and the rest of The Dunelm Group for their own safety.

In between his battle's with Crey, Eleven assisted with defense organizations during the bulk of The Second Rikti Invasion. While the Rikti Strikes have slowed down in recent times, Eleven is always vigilant of Vanguard Alerts that may suddenly broadcast. He is usually the first name on Vanguard's list when they put in a request to The Dunelm Group for assistance.

[edit] Trivia

  • Despite being right handed, Eleven primarily kicks with his left foot.
  • Eleven has yet to beat Adam Dennison in sparing sessions since Adam became a Warshade.
  • 6 months into starting his original Martial Arts training in Durham, he found work as a bouncer for a number of bars in the city which paid for his continuing lessons.
  • Eleven always has his “Trophy Room” shipped to wherever his base of operations is, if he knows he is going to be based there for a while. The purpose of the room is more to intimidate would be new allies or enemies rather than for his own ego.
  • If Eleven does have a Super Hero Catchphrase, it would probably be “SIT DOWN!” which he has been known to say to enemies after he knocks them to the floor.
