Everybody wants a ninja character, go on, admit it! Okay, maybe not everyone, certainly not FaeryFire but you got to admit, ninja spies for the win! Anyway, Sabrina is my very own ninja-spy and similarly to Codename, she's been raised up as a tool but unlike Codename, Dragonfly was used as a deadly weapon. I really really love roleplaying this character, especially in mission plots because it allows for re-enacting those awesome moments from legendary Kung Fu movies with Jet Li, Jackie Chang and obviously Zhang Ziyi.

[edit] Personality

Sabrina Chung San was trained from childhood to be an emotionless killing weapon; a ninja. As an infant, Sabrina's instincts of survival were constantly put to the test. Before learning to walk, she had learnt to run, swim and evade. Before learning to speak, she had learnt to kill, efficiently. This code of survival and duty is all Sabrina had been taught to know; resulting in a woman with an aggressively negative view of the world, who and was never to know the concept of pleasantries.

Sabrina can also come across as xenophobic for her strong believes in human supremacy. When she reluctantly migrated to Paragon City, the difficulty of blending in was her greatest ever challenge. Even today, she is still at odds with androids like Number Nine, mutants like ex-teammate Saffron McKenzie and otherworldly creatures such as Vanyanarore the Elendevian. Over the years though, she has made some progress, however little, to accept the simple fact that in modern day, super-powered America, she is surrounded by "freaks" and there is little she can do about it.

[edit] Motivation

During her short-lived career as a hero, Sabrina's motivation was wrongly placed on personal gain. On her first day on the job, the Militia team confiscated two small boxes of stolen diamonds, from which she stole a handful. She is now temporarily retired and nursing her seven-month pregnancy. She is also looking for a new and bigger apartment with Hayate; the Doctor says she's carrying twins!

A book was recently published in China called the Legend of Niatsu which tells the story of Sabrina San as the last of her clan in a war that claimed the lives of hundreds. Niatsu is the name appointed to Sabrina when she became a full-fledged kunoichi and till today, the name strikes fear into the hearts of those who knew her. She is recognised as one of the world's greatest martial artists, a master of Kenjutsu, Battōjutsu, Iaijutsu, Ninjutsu, Jujutsu, and most recently, Kung Fu. In her time, Niatsu was considered to be China's deadliest ninja, usually accompanied by a mythical sword of the Dragon Saber.

[edit] Dragon Saber

The Dragon Saber is a broadsword the length of an average man. It divides into two separate pieces, the Golden Dragonfly and the Soaring Dragon, that can be wielded as dual-katana, pole or spear - it could even be used by two persons. The sword's handle alone is worth thousands of dollars in its intricate craftsmanship, using gold and silver as its primary decorative material. The handle is sculptured in the shape of a dragon dancing with an insect. When the sword is parted, the silver dragon and golden insect are separated. On closer inspection, one would notice that the eyes of these sculptures are represented by tiny crystals. These crystals are believed to have great magical power in the hands on two specific individuals; a female heir of the San and her destined lover.

[edit] Golden Dragonfly

While wielding the Golden Dragonfly katana, Sabrina has been seen to move with inhuman speed and agility, often dodging speeding bullets. She has been known to withstand a barrage of super-strong beatings and even several simultaneous missile blasts. She has shown precognitive abilities that suggest mild time manipulation and lastly, it is almost certain that she can influence combustion; often traveling by heat-propelled flight. Despite its magic, Sabrina has only ever used her sword's crystals twice since recovering it last year. Once, when she first met and dueled her husband and again when she first murdered Wu Long Shin. Apparently the magic works only to ensure survival.

It has been programmed into Sabrina's psyche to train and meditate every hour of every day. When not physically, then spiritually; even in sleep. Thus, her skill has grown beyond exceptional human standards. She is a master of Kenjutsu, Battōjutsu, Iaijutsu, Ninjutsu, Jujutsu, and most recently, Kung Fu. The latter has introduced her into the channeling of chi to manipulate one's own energy, most comfortably in mellee combat, although some of her class mates can project their chi into invisible ranged blasts; a level that Sabrina is currently aiming for.

[edit] Ninjutsu

Magic aside, Sabrina has mastered all eighteen schools of Ninjutsu. 1, Taijutsu; unarmed combat, relying on the science of body movements as the only weapon. Sabrina's favourite techniques are grapples, back-fist strikes, knee-kicks, joint locks, throws and seemingly effortless evasion. 2, Kenjutsu; sword fighting. 3, Bojutsu; stick and staff fighting. Her favourite techniques involve slashing, swinging, and stabbing with the staff. 4, Shurikenjutsu; throwing blades, metal spikes, plates or knives. 5, Sōjutsu, spear fighting. 6, Naginatajutsu; glaive fighting (a bladed pole). 7, Kusarigamajutsu; fighting with a chain and sickle weapon. 8, Kayakujutsu; pyrotechnics and explosives - Sabrina's favourite and most commonly practiced martial art; devoted to the study of firearms and advanced explosives. Altair's elder brother, Daniel Stevens is currently working on a gun-blade modification of the Golden Dragonfly katana.

9, Hensōjutsu; disguise & impersonation. The skills needed for this art comes almost naturally to Sabrina; she sees and mimics both appearance and characteristics near-perfect. 10, Shinobi-iri; the art of silent movement in darkness. 11, Bajutsu; horsemanship. 12, Sui-ren; water training. 13, Bōryaku; military strategy. 14, Chōhō; espionage. 15, Intonjutsu; escaping and concealment, another of Sabrina's favourite due to the dramatic exits of smoke-screening. 16, Tenmon; the art of understanding and using meteorology as a strategic weapon. 17, Chi-mon; the art of using the knowledge of the geography to one's advantage.

Last but no least, 18, Seishin-teki kyōyō; spiritual refinement. In fact, this is the first discipline in Ninjutsu, for the mind must be prepared before it can receive what it must do, but meditation has never been Sabrina's strong point. Spiritual refinement requires the knowing of oneself, the knowing and love of nature, the realization of one's calling or destiny, harmony with oneself, and a trinity of the body, spirit and soul through love. It wasn't until she met and fell in love with Hayate that Sabrina finally reached a higher plane of seishin-teki kyōyō. In fact, her husband has far better spiritual connection that she does, possibly because of his Buddhist practices, which she was never fond of; her father's side of the San family were practicing Christians.

[edit] Vulnerabilities

Sabrina trains daily to cover all her vulnerabilities, physically, mentally and spiritually. In a battle with another trained human, she is usually unrivaled, however in a world of supermen, Sabrina's peak human prowess is often not enough. In dire situations, she resorts to the magics of her crystals which are usually fixed into the Golden Dragonfly katana, or carried on her person. However, should she loose the crystals or be separated from them, her magical power is removed.

Emotionally, Sabrina is a bit of a mess. As established in the above paragraphs, Sabrina has a negative attitude as a result of her dark past, yet, beneath the warrior's armour is a sensitive woman with her own needs. Her greatest vulnerability is her undying love for her husband and unborn child. She would quite willingly take her own life should she fail to protect her loved ones. Equally, this is her greatest strength; the ability to devote all her skill and her life to defend her family.

[edit] Equipment

Sabrina and Hayate own a small dojo in their apartment where their weapons are kept. The dojo is rarely used, because of its limited size; the two preferring to train at the Paragon University martial arts dojo in the Steel Canyon campus or at Militia headquarters. Their library of weapons include the Dragon Saber (which splits into the two long katana; Golden Dragonfly and the Soaring Dragon), several long staffs, throwing shuriken, Japanese spears, naginata glaives and daggers, four Kusarigama weapons with chains and sickles attached, an array of Chinese-type and American firearms (mostly pistols), maps of the world, a library of books and several costumes for impersonating professional characters i.e Doctors, Policemen or Firemen. Lastly, there are various black clothings designed for camouflage and stealthy movement in the dark.

• Mar. 1988 - Sabrina San is born to Emmanuel and Sakura San in the town of Xinyuang, China.
• Apr. 1989 - Sabrina begins her survival training.
• Jan. 1991 - Sabrina drowns and kills a five year old rival in survival training.
• Apr. 1994 - Sabrina begins Taijutsu training and excells beyond her classmates.
• Apr. 1995 - Sabrina begins Kenjutsu training and excells beyond her age level.
• Mar. 1998 - On her tenth birthday, the Devils of Kimone attack the Kunoichi temple. Sabrina and others are sexually assaulted.
• Dec. 1999 - The decades-old war between the San Clan and the Devils of Kimone erupt into the streets of Xinyuang.
• Feb. 2000 - Sabrina's father is murdered by Li Mu Kimone. His sword, the Soaring Dragon goes missing. It is presumed that Li Mu stole it.
• May. 2002 - The first Rikti invasion left Xinyuang exhausted of its trade, the Devils of Kimone take advantage.
• Aug. 2004 - At the age of sixteen, Wu Long Shin declared Sabrina San and others as Kunoichi of the San Clan.
• Mar. 2005 - On her seventeenth birthday, Sakura San passes down the Golden Dragonfly katana to her only daughter, re-naming her Niatsu.
• Dec. 2005 - The fights against the Devils of Kimone take a nasty turn as the San Temple is raided. Half the clan are killed.
• Jun. 2006 - Sabrina arms herself with the Golden Dragonfly katana and goes after her grandfather, Li Mu Kimone. She kills all his Devils and then kills him.
• Jun. 2006 - Sabrina and her mother flee to America. There, Sabrina adopts the identity of Dragonfly and is recruited to a team of heroes now known as the Militia.
• Jun. 2006 - By the end of the month, Sabrina is deported to China and sentenced to death for mass murder. Her mother transforms into Sabrina and is killed in her place.
• Aug. 2006 - Sabrina returns to Paragon City and tell the Militia about her murderous past, the team decides to help her however they can.
• Sep. 2006 - The Militia helps defeat New Mafia who had exposed Sabrina's murders to the American press. Somehow, the Court is lenient and Dragonfly's hero license is destroyed.
• Oct. 2006 - Meriam follows Sabrina back to China to learn more about the Golden Dragonfly katana. Wu Long Shin sends asks Sabrina to stay and train.
• Nov. 2006 - After her training, Wu Long assigns San to defeat a necromancer who had been terrorising Xinyuang with undead Devils. She learns a shocking truth and flees China.
• Dec. 2006 - Wu Long chases Sabrina to America with intent to kill. Coile confiscates the Soaring Dragon katana from him.
• Jan. 2007 - Sabrina steals the Soaring Dragon from the Silent Tempest base and kills Wu Long.
• Feb. 2007 - Sabrina is arrested by the Militia on charges of murder. She is imprisoned.
• Mar. 2007 - Out of jail, Sabrina and Hayate are recruited to work for the CIA, as American spies. The murder of Wu Long is re-evaluated as necessary force. Sabrina is impregnated.
• Apr. 2007 - CIA assigns Hayate and Sabrina to find and apprehend the resurrected terrorist Wu Long Shin. They are tasked with other spy missions in China.
• Jun. 2007 - Hayate and Sabrina San are married!
• Jul. 2007 - Hayate and Sabrina finally bring Wu Long to justice. They continue to work as spies for the CIA, meanwhile studying or teaching at the PCU.
• Aug. 2007 - While fighting the Rikti invasion, Sabrina discovers that she is pregnant, with twins.

During a bi-curious phase, Sabrina had feelings for Meriam (Masked Angel II). The two later fell out over it but recently, after Sabrina's pregnancy was announced, the two have been seen together often at the Pocket D bar. Sabrina wanted a Christian wedding and although Hayate is Buddhist, he went along with the idea. Sabrina loves hip-hop and popular music. At home, she dresses in traditional Hanfu but prefers American street wear when attending her classes at Paragon University's Founders Falls campus.

The San family are actually of Japanese descent, hence why Sabrina was schooled in the Japanese martial arts and only recently took interest in learning Kung Fu here in America. Lastly, Sabrina's father was of African decent and like Hayate, he agreed to adopt the San family name in order to preserve the legacy of the clan and to show the depth of his loyalty.
