Do Lo Might
From Handbook of the Union Universe
Pretty much a homage (Rip-off) of The Thing from the Fantastic Four, but then I just really wanted to muck on with a Stone Tanker!

Do Lo Might is an active agent of The Dunelm Group
[edit] Personality
Dominic Longstaff is a guy that tries to make the best out of the situation that he has ended up in. He tends to look at everything with good gentle humor. Due to his condition, he is also very open minded with new people that he meets or ideas people have, in particular when it comes to heroing now that it has become his day job. However given that he is still quite new to the world of heroing, he is somewhat shy around people he does not know and is still a little bit clumsy and accident prone when wandering around in stone form.
[edit] Motivation
Dominic’s motivation comes from his decision on using his new abilities for the good of the world and also as a way of repaying the kindness shown to him by The Dunelm Group and the rest of the hero community during the time when his accident that caused his condition first happened. Most of all though, he is motivated to be a shining example to his young son Jack Longstaff, even if he does not get to see him as much as he would like.
[edit] Powers
[edit] Primary Powers
Stone Armour – Dominic’s primary abilities are to encase his body out of a variety of different types of stone to protect him from harm. Although his initial stone skin is dolomite, he has learned how to concentrate so that his DNA can dynamically change to create different stone elements that suit his purpose. For example his Brimstone Armor is suited for when taking on fire and ice attacks, while his Crystal Armor offers some resistance to attacks such as Nictus Blasts. His most powerful armor though is his "Granite Monster".
[edit] Secondary Powers
Stone Melee – As well as manipulating stone as a form of defense, Dominic can also create stone to perform attacks. This includes encasing his fists in harder stone for more devastating punches or creating a stone mallet for equally devastating effects.
[edit] Travel
Due to Dominic’s somewhat cumbersome movement, Dr Roberts created a teleport device designed off the research done on Adam Dennison’s natural teleporting abilities. This allows Dominic to reach destinations fairly quickly, but is also used by Dominic for surprise attacks on targets.
[edit] Vulnerabilities
When Dominic does not have any stone defenses activated and looks like a regular human, he is just as frail as a regular human. As such Dominic rarely reverts back to his human form in public view, saving his human appearance for safe areas such as Pocket D.
Dominic’s stone skills are a great asset to his combat skills, but they also hinder him when movement is concerned. He is not a quick mover, especially when using his Rooted and Granite Armour abilities. This slow movement was the main reason that he was given teleport abilities to move to destinations as quickly as possible, but if teleportation is not available, then most opponents will be able to easily out run him.
Dominic is also a relative newcomer to the world of heroing. While he has progressed quite well in using his abilities, he has still much to learn about the finnier points of day to day life as a hero both the way he acts and what he does physically.
[edit] Equipment
Dominic’s only other piece of equipment is communication device and any other critical equipment that might be needed for a particular mission.
[edit] Character History
Dominic Longstaff was a quarry worker that lived in the small village of Whitley Hill in County Durham, England. Like all typical men from the North East of England, Dominic liked a few drinks and a night out with mates, liked his football (Supported Hartlepool FC) and enjoyed the company of women.
Quarry work was not exactly what Dominic had in mind as a day job, but it was all he could get given that he was not an exceptional student at school. He did not resent what he did however, he was quite prepared to put up with the work in order to fund his way of life and eventually grew to enjoy the sort of physical labor he performed.
Eventually though his job would be to help provide for a young family. Dominic had met a local Peterlee girl one night out by the name of Sarah Stafford. After a few wild nights out with each other Sarah became pregnant. This was not planned between the couple but they accepted it and got married before the child’s birth. Sarah gave birth to a son which the couple called Jack Longstaff.
With a new family to provide for, Dominic looked to settle down from his party lifestyle and work towards creating a good life for his wife and son. Unfortunately Dominic and Sarah would end up divorcing before Jack had turned 5 years old. While both loved their son very much and did everything they could to make the family work, the two were simply not a compatible couple. Had a child not come into their lives it would have been likely that Dominic and Sarah would have only had a small fling with each other before breaking up. But both obviously felt the need to try and make it as a family for the sake of their son. It came to a point however that Sarah just could not take anymore.
After the divorce Dominic performed a considerable amount of overtime at his quarry in order to continue to fund for his son Jack as well as try and rebuild his own finance to start over in a new home.
One night of overtime was to change his life forever.
The Dunelm Group were at the time dealing with a gang of rogue scientists who’s aim was to steal and further develop advanced weapons to use against the British Military in what appeared to be a motive of revenge.
On one particular night that Dominic was working overtime, the rogue scientists had infiltrated the quarry in an attempt to steal any equipment that was deemed useful to their cause. The gang though were very amateurish in their actions and it was not hard for The Dunelm Group to track their movements and corner them into a confrontation and eventually arrest them.
Sure enough Dominic was alerted to the presence of the scientist trespassing and looked to deal with them himself. The scientists panicked after being spotted but then all of the lights in the quarry came on with The Dunelm Group standing over the pit area where Dominic and the scientists were.
The ensuring scuffle was over as quick as it started. The scientists could not match the combat skills of The Dunelm Group. However when rounding up the scientists, one of the gang managed to break free and grab hold of a Particle Disruptor Gun that the gang had brought with them. The scientist aimed for Leon Tasker but, Dominic dived to push Leon out of the line of fire. The beam struck Dominic and hurled him into a nearby wall of dolomite. After the scientist was subdued, Eleven rushed over to try and help Dominic but was stopped by Leon when the Brigadier caught what was happening to Dominic.
Dominic was embedded into the wall of dolomite and his body was beginning to painfully turn into the same kind of stone. Leon struggled to keep Eleven back claiming that any attempt to try and rescue Dominic could very well make things worse. Dominic appeared to be falling further into the wall of dolomite. He tried to reach out to the group with one of his arms. Eleven eventually convinced Leon to try and help. Both Eleven and Leon grabbed the single arm desperately trying to reach out and attempted to pull Dominic out of the wall but it was all in vain.
Dominic was pulled completely into the dolomite wall. Suddenly though Dominic burst out of the wall as a huge mass of dolomite. His body continued to restructure and eventually settled to a more humanoid shape but his body was made completely of dolomite. Dominic passed out from the experience and Leon immediately called for military medical assistance.
Dr Brian K Roberts intervened at this point over the radio link and suggested that the medical team meet back at The Dunelm Group’s base to make use of any technology that might help out Dominic.
Dr Roberts quickly dismantled the particle disruption gun to figure out the inner workings of the device while medical staff that Leon brought in tried their best to make Dominic comfortable. It was a tall order though as the staff were unable to do anything for Dominic due to his unforgiving stone skin.
It became apparent to all that there was no way of reversing the accident. Dr Roberts though offered Dominic the base as a place to stay so that the team could get to know Dominic better and try and create a solution out of his situation.
Dr Roberts carried out further tests to see what Dominic was now capable of. Dr Roberts concluded that the particle disruption gun altered Dominic’s DNA to accept the genetic structure of the dolomite that he was slammed into hence his body was now of the same material. Dominic’s DNA structure though was still in a dynamic state meaning that in theory Dominic could absorb the atomic build of other stone materials and recreate them on his body.
Dr Roberts spent time with Dominic testing out his theory. Sure enough Dominic was able to hold other stone materials and learn their properties at an atomic level and then practice his concentration to recreate the same stone around his body. Some stone type he was able to quickly learn to create, but some took a while to master and only came about through stress and fear of something happening to him, such as not able to totally encase himself in granite armor until he was threatened with a fatal strike from the AI machine Steel House.
Over time Dominic is now able to masterfully change and create different stone types on his body for any purpose he needs them for. He has also since been able to concentrate enough to revert back to a normal human form when he feels safe enough to do so.
As a way of thanking The Dunelm Group for there attempts to help him after his accident, he accepted the invitation to join the group as a new hero to use his new found powers to protect the innocent. He also continues his work as a hero as a way of trying to be a shining example to his son Jack who he rarely gets to see now since moving with the group to Paragon City.
Dominic still has much to learn about what it takes to be a successful hero in the City and is still prone to making rookie mistakes. However the rest of the team have accepted him as an invaluable member of the squad as their resident “Tanker”. Dominic has also forged a great camaraderie with the Warshade, Adam Dennison and the Cyborg, Iron Works.
