[edit] Character History

Ryo was abandoned as a baby outside a dojo in Uji near Kyoto. He grew up taught by the monks there, where he showed exceptional mental and physical prowess and a pure heart. Working hard every day of his life, he strove to improve himself and the lives of those around him. Finally, his dedication to others and his now legendary feats brought attention from the yang kami of the Japanese people, and when he came of age at 18 they granted him the ability to heal nearly any wound given time, a power that would only continue to aid him if he continued to pursue his altruistic lifestyle.

It was around this time that he met Sirius Moonshadow, a wandering dragon disguised as a human who had settled in Yamanakacho for a short time. In the weeks that followed, they became close friends and Sirius finally revealed his true nature - that of an ice-blue dragon. He explained that he was headed for a city in the west called Paragon, a place that needed as many heroes as it could gather. Ryo declined, saying he needed to continue his training and was worried that such a place could cause his spirit to become impure. Despite the rejection, he and Sirius parted on amicable terms.

However, his daily training was now tempered with the longing to do more good in the world - although he was dedicated to his local community their needs were simple and their troubles less than dire. Finally, he packed up his few possessions, a small amount of money and his robes in a small sack and set off. Lacking the money for any kind of transport, he set off at his own pace through the world, emulating his friend and performing various works of good for villages and towns across Asia. His reputation for such acts travelled faster than he could, and he became known as Densetsu, the Legend, a name that stuck after he left Japan. Although he desired none, some of the beneficiaries of his help rewarded him with needed currency, and eventually he accumulated enough that as he reached Moscow he could afford a plane ticket to Paragon. All in all his trip took nearly 7 years.

Taking up a job as a builder and renting a small apartment in Kings Row, he retained his simple lifestyle and between his shifts started to stop minor crimes on the streets of Kings Row and Atlas Park. It was at this point that Sirius, having started a small but informal magical organisation, heard of Ryo's arrival in Paragon. He immediately invited him to join the Confraternity of Stars where his efforts have proved much better utilised.

[edit] Affiliations

The Confraternity of Stars - Ryo's current Super Group. Resembles a laxly-structured brotherhood of magical (and magic-inspired) good guys.

Uji Dojo - Ryo's training ground and the place where he was brought up.

Blackwell - Ryo's employers in Paragon.

Sirius - A nomadic dragon Ryo met in Yamanakacho. His closest friend and Paragon and his superior in the Confraternity, a position he does not begrudge him.

[edit] Personality

Ryo has spent much of his life learning, practicing and meditating alone. Although he doesn't actively shun other's company, he is loathe to work closely with others for fear of interrupting them or causing complications. As such he normally works alone, or when pressed with other members of the Confraternity.

[edit] Motivation

Ryo is an altruist. He lives a simple life in order not to deprive others of the fruits of their labour, and assists where possible in their endeavours. This is all the reason he needs to continue the fight against the forces of corruption.

[edit] Primary Powers

[edit] Martial Arts

Thunder Kick: The Thunder Kick is a quick snap move that Ryo directs at an enemy's head. This sometimes leaves them dazed and unable to focus for a short time.

Storm Kick: A slower roundhouse kick that is designed for a higher level of damage than the Thunder Kick, regardless of where it contacts the foe.

Cobra Strike: One of Ryo's very limited range of fist attacks. This forcefully slams an open palm into the face of an enemy in order to concuss. This has a high chance of disabling the foe for a period.

Focus Chi: Ryo can concentrate for a few moments to realign his chi - this focuses his motions and grants him a higher damage potential from his attacks.

Crane Kick: Ryo picked this move up after he departed his dojo. Maintaining his balance on one foot, he kicks out horizontally with the other, aiming for the opponent's chest. This move more often than not knocks the foe off his feet, often adding damage from the fall to the bruise from the imapct of the kick.

Crippling Axe Kick: Lifting his leg up high, Ryo draws it across the enemy's head before bringing it down sharply on the head or shoulder. Foes who rely on flight are usually knocked from the sky with this move, though it has a less dramatic effect on ground-based enemies.

[edit] Secondary Powers

[edit] Regeneration

Fast Healing: As a result of the kami's intervention Ryo can heal most wounds he receives.

Reconstruction: Concentrating for a moment, Ryo can reroute chi to a particularly badly damaged area of his body, healing it much quicker.

Quick Recovery: Another side effect of the kami's gift, Ryo does not tire as easily as most others, allowing him to continue fighting when others are exhausted.

Dull Pain: Ryo has undergone rigorous training from his peers at his dojo, enabling him to simply ignore less painful blows and continue fighting without flinching. This effectively increases the amount of hits he can take before he goes down.

Integration: With his increased mental focus, Ryo can enter a higher state which grants him some more precise control of his body. In this way he is resistant to being stunned and held, and also increases the rate at which his wounds heal. This however is a small drain on his energy levels.

Resilience: The blows inflicted on Ryo since arriving in the city have made an effect on his body, building up his resistance to more mundane attacks. He has also developed an immunity to the more popular poisons used by the villains in Paragon. Finally, he is harder to concuss, most probably as he has become resistant to blows to the head.

[edit] Additional Powers

[edit] Leaping

Combat Jumping: Years of honing his senses and muscles have lead Ryo to become quite nimble, increasing his ability to dodge all attacks and making it much harder to completely immobilise him.

Super Jump: At Sirius' request, Ryo has learned a simple incantation that allows him to lessen the effect of gravity on him. Although it does not quite grant the power of flight, it does allow him to leap for great distances.

[edit] Abilities

In addition to his knowledge of martial arts and his imbued regeneration, Ryo is a talented polyglot. He currently speaks Japanese, Chinese (Guan, Wu, Min, Yue, Xiang and Mandarin), Cantonese, Hindi, Russian, French, German, Spanish and English. He also has practiced the ability to suppress his own chi in order to be able sense the chi of others. This acts somewhat like a radar and can be used to determine the locations of enemies without line of sight to them.

He is quick-witted and swift to come up with plans and stratagems for dealing with particularly stubborn groups of villains. He is unofficially the Confraternity's tactician and planner - even Sirius defers to his better judgement when implementing the more complex raids and busts.

[edit] Vulnerabilities

Ryo is human and thus has most of the usual human weaknesses. Despite his physical condition, Ryu is still quite vulnerable to damage, usually relying on his healing ability to rapidly take care of any wounds he sustains. This can lead to him being overwhelmed quickly in fights against large groups of foes. He also, for the most part, refuses to use any devices or tools - and his lack of magical ability means he is not very versatile. This is usually more than made up for with his fighting prowess and mastery of tactics.

[edit] Equipment

Ryo refuses to use any non-martial tools in his missions, relying instead on his fists and his wits.
