Bassai is also Japanese in origin and is practiced in Taekwondo and Tang Soo Do (tangsudo) as well as many Japanese and Okinawan Karate styles. Bassai is also known as Balsek. Bassai is often translated as "to break down the fortress". The Korean pronunciation of the characters that make up Bassai is "Patsai". It is usually associated with the Cobra, because of the quick, snapping motions of the techniques. (This pattern normally resides between Choong-Moo and Kwang-Gae)

[edit] Personality

Danny McAvoy is a (regularly) straight talking young man hailing from Queens. He enjoys being part of as many things as possible, and being able to take his Taekwondo training out "into the war" pleases him to no end.

[edit] Powers

[edit] Martial Arts

Danny has trained for nearly his entire life in Taekwondo. He earned his second-degree black belt in May of 2008. Being a practitioner, and now teacher of the art at a training centre in Paragon, it motivates Danny's life.

[edit] Invulnerabilty

Danny was the unfortunate victim of a horrendous car crash during the Second Rikti Invasion. A bomb managed to collide with a tram, sending it careening into Danny's path as he attempted to drive home. The tram practically landed on Danny's car, leaving him with horrific injuries. Luckily, a hero saw the whole thing and got Danny to hospital in seconds, saving his life.
It was in hospital that Danny was signed up for (without his permission, which he is still bitter about in some ways) a new treatment method, which involved the use of an implant during the operation. A small implant, placed inside Danny's skull, monitored his brain patterns and neutralized pain, enabling the doctors to not have to use morphine.
The treatment was much better than anyone had planned however, and Danny was unable to feel anything at all. Only now has he begun to get feelings back, and even then, they now come as a bit of a shock.

[edit] Super Jump

Athleticism and no fear enable Danny to traverse rooftops quickly and efficiently.

[edit] Vulnerabilities

Danny is still a human (though he occasionaly thinks not, as he cannot feel). Therefore, any injuries that would usually kill a human would do the same to Danny, but thanks to his protective armour and his mind, he usually comes out unscathed.

[edit] Character History

Born in New York to a Scottish father and American-Irish mother, Danny was always a bit of an outcast. However, living across the street from a Taekwondo "dojang" gave him something to do to keep him off the streets, and also build his confidence greatly.
Loving the art from the get go, Danny trained every day, as long as he could manage, honing his skills and his body to near-perfection.
He eventually said goodbye to his home in New York after he got a place in the University of Steel Canyon, Paragon City. He studied Literature, but didn't succeed well (if at all). Instead, he continued focusing on his favourite pastime, finding a nearby Taekwondo school and enrolling. He became good friends with the "Kyo sah nim", or teacher there, and eventually he himself became a teacher, albeit part-time.

It was during the Second Rikti War where Danny got his "big break", in more ways than one. Frantically driving home as Steel Canyon was attacked, a Rikti bomb sent a tram flying off the rails, right into Danny's path. His car was crushed, him inside. Nearly every bone in his body was broken or shattered and he was bleeding heavily, but a nearby hero managed to pull him from the wreck and get him to hospital within seconds thanks to the medi-port system.
Danny was given a new treatment, placing an implant in his skull which enabled him to feel no pain throughout the long 27-hour operation that followed to repair the damage he had taken. However, the implant was much better than anyone had expected, and most of Danny's feelings were being blocked out.
Feeling no pain, he began to train harder and longer, causing himself injury as he wore himself out constantly. Realising he could use the new implant, he changed his initial thoughts of it from disgust to wonder. Danny trained and got into contact with a few companies to make him some armour, but all initially refused, as they did not believe his claims. Instead, Danny had to start out small, working his way up slowly before Vanguard offered him a suit and Membership. Danny now currently works under Serpent Drummer, doing lots of work in the War Zone, partly out of revenge for his accident.
