| Archris is a public figure, but not massively so. His major powers and look are known by a respectable number of people. | |
This article about a character is a stub -- a small, but growing, work in progress. If you're the creator of this character, why not consider expanding it?
Archris is a dedicated, idealistic and unflinching hero whos link with a fallen angel grants him his powers.
To the fearful, hope.
To the weak, protection.
To the desolate, love.
To the broken, healing.
To the corrupt, justice.
To the evil, destruction.
This is what it means to be a hero. - Archris

[edit] Affiliations
[edit] Friends
Archris is on good terms with most people he meets. He has little tolerance for villains, but can be trusted to be polite if they are met on neutral ground, such as Pocket D. Obviously, like all people, he likes some more than others.
Aquis - A young water-witch and villainess for whom Archris has great affection for. The exact nature of their relationship is... Complicated, to say the least.
Starjet - A fellow member of TheFoundry whom Archris has worked with on many occasions and has great respect for.
Golden Shimmer - A young heroine and former victim of the sickening underage cage fights. She shared her story with Arhcris and touched by her trust, he promised to help her.
[edit] Enemies
Archris has clashed with many villains over the course of his career, particularly those with a talent for the arcane and occult. While for the most part, this animosity is professional, Archris reserves a special bile for those who purposefuly spread missery, pain and evil and for those who hurt those he considers his friends. Foremost among these currently, aside from well-known personalities such as Arachnos higher-ups, is the drug dealer Sam Scorpion Sting. In their last confrontation, Archris shattered a vial of volatile chemicals, scaring Sam horribly, so it's probably safe to say the hatred is mutual.
[edit] Groups
Arcrhis is a member of the Super Hero organisation The Foundry.
[edit] Personality
Archris is a kind, honest person who wears his emotions openly and is proud of his actions as a hero. He is confident and loyal, being prepared to give everything to help his friends or protect the helpless in a heartbeat. Although normally sober and serious, he is never one to do anything by half: earn his friendship and he'll stay by you to the end, but only do evil around him if you enjoy running and hiding for the rest of your life.
[edit] Motivation
Archris is a firm believer in it being the right of heroes to not only protect and serve humanity and the innocent in fighting their enemies, but also to act as beacons. To be symbols of hope and courage in a world of danger; to be champions of justice and peace in their every breath. Archris fights for good as only someone with complete faith that he is doing the right thing can. To be anything less than a hero in thought and deed is, in his eyes, to fall short of the name.

[edit] Martial Arts
Archris studies an ancient form of martial arts that possibly pre-dates human civilization by several millenia. The techniques were orriginally practiced by angelic warriors who chose to abstain from weapons and can be used to strike either lethaly or non-lethaly. As it was created for use on an open battlefield, the techniques are highly dangerous for both user and target if the practicioner is unskilled. Archris augments this already fearsome power with energy channeled from the netherworld to further increase the speed and power of his attacks. If the style has one weakness, it is that it is very limited against multiple opponents.
[edit] Dark Armour
Archris's link with his angelic counterpart allows him to tap into the fallen angel's netherworld magic, wrapping himself in magical energies drawn directly from that shadowy plane of existance. Most of the time, Archris simply uses this to protect himself from both physical and psionic threats, however, in dire circumstances, he can also draw upon the negative energies to syphon life-force from his opponents, or even sacrifice a little of his own to disorientate them.
[edit] Additional Powers
Archris has mastered a few useful other spells, such as the ability to see onto other planes of existance and observe people's living auras, displays of spiritual light that indicate a person's power, abilities, emotions and personality in broad terms. He can also use various spells of flight.
[edit] Abilities
Archris is knowledgeable about several aspects of the arcane and extra-planar entities and activities. His best subjects are summoning and communication across planes of existance and research into the properties and creation of magical items and artefacts. He is also an avid student of the wars between the gods and other such subjects from before human history. Although he is fairly well-read in several areas of the arcane, he has little natural talent for it, relying upon his link with his counterpart for the majority of his power.
[edit] Vulnerabilities
Archris is loyal and noble to a fault and can be easily baited into a trap if his friends or innocents are used as bait. Furthermore, it is possible that if he was ever cut off from his link with his counterpart, his powers would drastically decrease, although this has yet to be confirmed.
[edit] Character History
[edit] Early Years
Isaac was born and raised in Paragon City by his parents and alongside his younger brother and sister. From an early age, Isaac had a strong sense of morality; something that frequently got him in trouble at school with both the class bullies and sometimes his teachers. If he saw someone being picked on, he'd step in, usually resulting in a fight. If he thought the teacher made a bad call, punishing someone who didn't deserve it, he'd say so and frequently get landed sitting in the corner or wirting lines after class. Despite this, his parents praised him, telling him to never loose sight of what was right and what was wrong. As he grew older and things became less black and white, Isaac still held true to his beliefs, getting in even more trouble when his moral code disagreed with authority.
Few people can point to a single moment in thier lives that changed their path forever, but for Isaac, it was to come on November 24th, 2002, the day after his twelfth birthday. The Rikti war had ended and by some miracle, Archris' family had survived intact. During the first day of clean-up, Archris had snuck into a restricted zone, meaning to help, when he heard crying coming from beneath a pile of rubble. Looking inside, he saw a young girl with her her baby brother in her arms, trapped in a small clear patch, mercifuly unhurt, but clearly terrified. Despite tugging with all his strength, Isaac couldn't shift the rubble and so started yelling for help and help was soon to arrive. Diving out of the clear blue sky, a tall man in a bright costume landed beside the astonished boy and took in the situation in a heartbeat. With a single, mighty heave, the hero flipped the gigantic slab of concrete from the trapped girl and promptly picked up both her and Isaac, flying them both to the shelters where their families were waiting and worrying. Following the girl's tearful reunion with her parents and a releaved scolding from his own and the hero, Isaac was in awe. Until that point, heroes had just been people on the television, giving speaches, flashing smiles as they fought crime or, more recently, the Rikti. That moment made them real and solidified them in the young boy's mind as paragons of everything he held dear. From that moment on, Isaac's determination to fight for what he believed in was ever more adamant and as he saw heroes as epitomising that, it was obvious what direction he was going to take when older.
[edit] First Steps
Not anyone can become a hero, obviously, but that did not stop Isaac from chasing his dream. Given his love of fantasy and magic, he joined MAGI the moment he left college, majoring in Occult Studies, with a minor in English Language and Literature. Working as a courier, Isaac's job was transporting mysitcal artefacts and information across the city, picking up items that heroes recovered that required MAGIs attention and making sure dangerous magics were kept out of the wrong hands. This job turned out to be more difficult than it sounded however. Isaac was constantly attacked by various small-time gangs like the Hellions, looking to take his packages for themselves.
After nearly a year of run-ins with such groups, Isaac appealed to MAGI for help, for some way to protect himself. After propper review, his case was okayed and the vaults were opened to allow him to take some small item of his choice to protect himself. Whilst searching the archives, Isaac happened across a book that hadn't been filed properly. Opening the book, he quickly realised what he held. The tome described a time before the age of man, a time when the Powers that made and guide the cosmos made war on each other. In the midst of this conflict, a single angel dared to use the power of the Netheworld to help fight for the side of light, but upon the war's ending and the side of good's victory, the angel was cast out, hurled into the abyss and exiled for the use of profane powers, even though his heart remainded pure. Despite the hideous risks involved, Isaac resolved to use this knowlege, making various notes from other books in the archives, telling his superiors he had found what he needed. That night, Isaac performed a ritual that allowed him to talk with the imprisioned angel and after many long hours, a bargin was struck. The angel imparted all his power to the human with no strings attached, provided Isaac took up the angel's name and continued to fight for all that was good in the world. So it was that the hero Archris was born.
[edit] A Hero is Never at Rest
At first, Isaac continued to work for MAGI when he wasn't actively fighting crime, but after roughly half a year into his life as a super-hero, an event occured that was to change Isaac's views on the world again and once more shape the path on which he walked. Many are familiar with the group of mutant thugs known as the 'Outcasts' and the violence they wreak on a daily basis in their home of Steel Canyon. Heroes regularly make forrays into the shining streets in an attempt to keep the people who live and work there feeling safe. Archris was no exception to this and was soon involved in several major PPD operations against the gang. One hot day in mid-summer, tempers were running high and a small scuffle between the Outcasts and the Hellions rapidly developed into a full-blown gang war. As the police evactuated civilians caught in the crossfire, Archris and a few other heroes were sent in to bring the battle to an end.
Somewhere in the middle of knocking gangers left, right and centre, Archris happened to notice what he immediately recognised as a gang leader among the Outcast numbers. Charging through the hail of bullets and blasts of fire, ice and electricity, Archris fought his way to the leader. Just as the Outcast turned, Archris's boot caught them full in the face, dropping them like a sack of potatoes. The squeak of pain caused the hero to look twice however. To his astonishment, the addled figure on the ground before him, nursing a broken and profusely bleeding nose, was female. A young woman, in fact, no more than fifteen or sixteen years old. In her eyes, shock, pain and confusion were rapidly becomming replaced by a gut-wrenching fear. An unspoken moment of understanding flickered between the two and Archris bent forward, slinging the girl over his shoulder, enshrouding them both in a cloak of shadows and hiding them from both sides of the conflict. Taking the girl out of the battle, Archris left her to the EMTs standing by on the sidelines, before wading back into the fray. After the gangs had either been arrested or dispersed, Archris sought the girl out. It took a long time, but eventually he earned her trust and they got to talking about why she had thrown in her lot with the Outcasts. It was a standard story; she had manifested her powers in puberty and was frightened. She didn't understand how she was suddenly able to create ice from thin air, or lower the temperature of a room just by walking in. She didn't understand and it had scared her and her difference had earned her the jealousy and scorn of her 'friends'. She'd joined the Outcasts because she felt pushed to do so, the she had no-one else to turn to, who'd understand her.
Archris resigned from MAGI the following day, calling in a few favours he'd earned using his powers. Before long, he was a new man; a teacher at Steel Canyon's prestigious university and an active member of several comunity outreach programs aimed at young meta-humans. He'd realised being a hero wasn't a job that you did and then went home, it was something you were, in your every waking moment. Even if he wasn't flying through the air, fighting criminals, he was still going to help as much as he could. He taught, he listened, he offered compassion and guidance and slowly his students and the people he met in the outreach would come to him with their problems, trusting him. It was a small difference, a drop in the ocean really, but even so, those he helped all walked taller, all smiled more easily and not one turned to the shadows for help when they knew that they could always ask that kind teacher, if they felt alone or scared.

[edit] Trivia
[edit] OOC
Archris was my first character on City of Heroes and was originally on Defiant, before I discovered that Union has better role play and transfered him. This manifestation of Archris is the longest running, but the character concept existed for several years before I started playing City of Heroes.
