Antipode is a character born from a RP concept, and it took a while for her personality to fall into place. Nevertheless, she is now probably the character I have most fun roleplaying with, as she combines an unusual demeanor with a past rich enough to have a genuine effects on her everyday decisions

Though she often comes across as harsh and uncaring, she experiences a complex range of emotions, most of which she suppresses. Whilst she maintains her outward appearance of the coldhearted mercenary, in her heart she still judges herself harshly, never allowing herself to forget the mutant 'stigma' she was born under.

When roused, her temper is legendary.

[edit] Motivation

Abandoned as child, and raised by a secretive society of mutants in the Etoile Isles, she has a fierce loyalty to those of her kind. Until recently, the larger portion of her earnings went to support new generations of mutant children, now removed to Paragon City. Though recent changes in leadership have turned her society against her, she is still determined to advance mutant welfare wherever possible.

Is deeply bitter that her normal-looking sister was not abandoned, despite her mutant gene, and is aware that she now leads the life of a Heroine under the alias Lady Joule. She is not currently aware of her sister's death in the Rikti invasion.

An exceedingly unusual mutant gene has left her with the ability to twist the laws of thermodynamics, by manipulating her bodys thermal potential. In her natural state, she continually draws in heat from her surroundings creating an unnatural chill. Through careful training, she has learned to direct this thermal transfer to cause massive temperature drops in temperature at a given point.

She can store this absorbed energy only up to a point, at which point her body reaches thermal equilibrium with her surroundings, and no further heat can be absorbed. However, she is able to release large amounts of heat, which she has learned to direct in a similar manner

An aptly named ability, this confluence of fire and ice occurs when she allows herself to become a pure thermal conduit, drawing in all thermal energy and ejecting it simultaneously. Such is the strength of this, it can cause near-instant drop of temperature to extreme low levels, whilst the brief burst of heat she ejects rivals that of the sun. Due to the massive adverse effects she suffers in the aftermath, she has only had cause to use it a mere handful of times since she discovered it.

By careful manipulation of air temperature, she is able to travel at great speeds on artificial gusts of wind and updrafts. This method is highly erratic, and she suffered many injuries before mastering it.

An extension of the manipulation or air currents, she has been known to make mist descend, or to whip up sudden gusts of wind. It is unknown how far these new powers shall progress

Somehow related to her thermal acuity, she can see and usually interpret the energy signatures of other beings. This had been invaluable to her when performing stealthly theft operations.

Incredibly lightweight and slender, she goes down fast in a fight.

Her passion for mutant rights often overrules her common sense

In the aftermath of using 'the Antipode', her abilities become near impossible to control, and she becomes highly susceptable to illnesses.

Her activities with the Ebon Sun have made her a target for several powerful organisationsm, including both Arachnos and Longbow

Antipode was born Chloe Farthington,a second child to Charles and Margaret of the Kent Farthingtons, an old-established family with great wealth and social standing. Although their first child, Julia, contained a dormant mutant gene, Chloe was born obviously deformed, and her parents hid her away from the world as they contacted various scientists to 'correct' her strange looks. And they used makeup to hide her pale features, and they staunchly ignored the chilling touch of her hands, and so they lived as a family, for a time.

However, by the age of 8, she was living on and beneath the streets of London. Her parents, fearing her increasingly unusual characteristics, had arranged for her to be raised at a boarding school, under an assumed name, hoping that 'someone else' would take care of their problem child. Feeling lost and homesick, it wasn't long before the young girl lashed out at her caretakers, unleashing the beginnings of what had been hidden for so many years. After that, everyone was wary of her, and noone noticed when she first snuck out to see the world she had been hidden from for so many years. She never went back.

It was two years later, in a juvenile detention center that specialised in containing 'freak kids', she found herself spending her days in a sealed room, judged too dangerous for human company, except the psychiatrists and metahuman specialists that came to lecture her on control. By this point, her powers were beginning to blossom. Her skin had reached an icy temperature that would take the skin off anyone who touched her, and had turned a distinct shade of blue. It was here she felt she first really understood her heritage as a mutant - and the consequences it had on her life: Prejudice, fear, segregation...for the crime of being different in a world full of humans.

'Antipode' means a diametrical opposite - literally the furthest two points on a sphere can be apart. An apt name for a character who embodies absolute opposites.
