Andraste

Anna Mackenzie was a fairly ordinary child, although a rebellious streak had led her to join a motorcycle gang which hovered on the edges of the law. She learned to fight, to hold her own amongst the bikers.

One night, her gang rode out into the countryside, found a clearing in a forest, lit a campfire and started drinking. After Anna fell asleep by the firelight, she had a vision of the ancient Celtic Goddess Andraste: "I was once honoured by the greatest warrior women. Boudicca gave sacrifice to me. The Romans trembled in fear at my name. Now I am all but forgotten. I have chosen you to take up arms for me. You will bring my name to life once more. You will be Andraste!"

Shortly afterwards, Anna/Andraste acquired a large broad sword, which she says speaks to her. It told her that it contained the spirit of the Morrigan, and it constantly nags at her to fight crime.
