Adam Dennison
From Handbook of the Union Universe
Adam Dennison was a close friend of Eleven before Eleven went on his path of the warrior. When Eleven returned to Durham City and became something of a local hero, Adam tried to carry on the friendship between the two. Eleven resisted somewhat as he did not want the last remainder of his past friends needlessly caught up in his warrior lifestyle. Adam would be involved in what should have been a fatal accident. However on the brink of death merged with a Kheldian being that recently escaped a life of the Nictus.
The character was originally Warshade Eleven and was a spoof character. However after thinking about possible future projects that would include characters from The Dunelm Group having an alternative Eleven no longer made sense to me. So I have changed the character to an old friend of Eleven who has become a Warshade.

[edit] Affiliations
Adam Dennison is a member of The Dunelm Group and has the rank of Group Captain. Before becoming a Warshade Adam was a close friend of Eleven before Eleven went on his road to become a warrior.
[edit] Personality
Adam Dennison is very outgoing and friendly with everyone he meets. Maybe even too much!
When talking it almost seems that Adam has a split personality. Usually when he starts a sentence he sounds like humble and wise preacher or philosopher emphasizing his spiritual nature, but then can’t help but end his sentence in a manner of a crass, sarcastic person looking to create a cheap laugh, but usually only causing a feeling of disturbance for those listening to him. The common theory behind this sometimes called “disorder” is that it is a side effect of the former Nictus being’s first mutual merger, however this has yet to be proved.
However when matters do get serious, then it can be certain that Adam will be on hand to offer the philosophical advice that is needed for the situation, using meditation to contemplate over issues, or tapping into the hidden knowledge the Kheldian being inside him has gained from its previous merges.
[edit] Motivation
Adam seems to be motivated by looking to atone past evils that he may have done, even though he is completely unaware what the Nictus being did in its previous existence before the current merger. Having looked into evil history of the Nictus however has convinced him that he must perform acts of justice and goodness to make up for anything evil that he might have done in a previous existence.
He is also very loyal to his old friend Eleven even if the old friendship is a little frosty than what is was but will fight to the death alongside Eleven after all the their years of knowing each other and for being in debt for being saved by Eleven on a few occasions.
[edit] Powers
Adam has the inherent abilities of any Tri Form Warshade being. However it has been commented on many occasions by strong beings such as The Almighty Chimera that Adam is a particularly, devastatingly powerful Warshade. This has come about from Adam's dedicated self training and spiritual meditation of himself. However while he tries to utilize every amount of power he might posses, his spiritual nature makes sure that he only ever uses his powers for the good of mankind and that he never, ever kills his opponents.
[edit] Human Form
Adam uses his human form for his martial arts fighting and for the bulk of his dark power. In his human form Adam can unleash bolts of Nictus Energy that can easily slow or disorientate his adversaries.
In this form, Adam has the ability to make himself almost invisible as just a Nictus essence using Shadow Cloak and Nebulous Form, making him the usual choice for missions for The Dunelm Group that require stealth, especially when used in combination with his ability to teleport himself and others.
He can also steal the energy of his opponents using a power called Sunless Mire which then make his attacks in any of his three forms more powerful. This can be doubled up with his Dwarf form’s own Dwarf Mire power for an even more devastating effect.
On top of that Adam can cause a massive explosion of dark energy similar to Eleven’s Inferno attack. Another power that he regularly uses is to extract the dark energy of his beaten foes to create a Nictus essence that he can command. The essence has similar blasting abilities to his Nova form.
Using all of this power can easily cause him exhaustion, but he can combat that after a fight by using his Stygian Circle power to extract the remaining dark essence of his beaten enemies to recharge himself. This power alone makes Adam seemingly unstoppable as he does not need any downtime to recover after a fight.
[edit] Nova Form
Adam primarily uses the “Flying Squidy” form as a way of traveling from one destination to another. He prefers this as his teleportation skills, while able to cover greater distances much quicker, easily tire him out with continued use.
However the Nova form is not just a form of travel, it is also used to unleash his most damaging of Umbral Blasts.
The only drawback to this form is that it has little to no damage resistance at all and he has been caught out on a few of occasions and subdued while attacked in this form.
[edit] Dwarf Form
When battles become really heavy, Adam will then turn into his “Giant Lobster” form, which is usually followed by the cheesy cry of “It’s Cosmic Clobbering Time!”
The Dwarf Form has abilities likened to heroes that come under the classification of Tankers. While the form does not have any ranged attacks like his other two forms, his Dwarf From is much more resistant to damage he may receive and can dish it back with sheer strength and power.
The Dwarf Form makes a suitable backup option if The Dunelm Group’s resident “Tanker” Do Lo Might is not available, but is still not powerful enough to replace him outright.
[edit] Abilities
Along with his powers, Adam has also developed some telepathy and telekinesis powers, however he is still very much a learner and still can not do a great lot with these powers. He can move some small objects with some considerable concentration, and can locate individuals with deep meditation, but nothing more than that.
This has distressed him somewhat as before the second Rikti Invasion he could fell something bad was coming, but he could not create a clear enough picture to warn others before it was too late.
Adam also has considerable martial arts training much like Eleven. However due to Adam's spiritual nature, he has progressed somewhat further in his training, much to the frustration of Eleven who has never beat Adam in sparing contests since he became a Warshade. Eleven though is still seen more as the martial artist of the group though, as Adam does not use his martial arts skills much in battle. He find that use of his Tri Form abilities is much more effective in battle.
[edit] Vulnerabilities
In his human form Adam has the same frailties as any other human. Perhaps even more so due to the fact that his human body is technically a corpse.
There is also always the present danger for all Kheldian beings in Paragon City, that being the Void Mercenaries and the circulation of Quantum Array Guns. The Quant guns are specifically designed to disrupt Kheldian energies. So while being shot by a Quant Gun for the rest of the group can be somewhat of a nuisance, for Adam it can be much more fatal. He has already had near misses and close shaves with Void Mercenaries in the past and tries his up most to avoid them during battles.
[edit] Equipment
Adam does not carry much equipment with him, save for the usual communication devices needed to maintain contact with command during missions.
[edit] Character History
[edit] Early years
Much like Eleven, Adam Dennison was born a regular child growing up in Durham City. Adam and Eleven met at junior school and through sports became firm friends. During the events of 1995 however, much of his life changed. After the attempted invasion of earth by Shao Khan a lot of Adam and Eleven's friends perished from the experience. Adam morned for a while but he also lost his close friend in Eleven who had now known to have become immortal and chose the life of a warrior. With Eleven's family annihilated during the invasion, the warrior's personality changed to the unyielding rage that is normal of Eleven now. The two lost contact with each other, although Adam would get to hear some snipits of news of what Eleven was up to.
When Eleven returned to stay in Durham and defend it, Adam attempted to re-start their friendship. But Eleven was not keen to do so as he did not want his only remaining part of his past to be caught up in anything Eleven was doing. The two would still on ocassions meet up and talk over life, but it was not like what Adam was used to before.
[edit] Becoming a Warshade
The A690 dual carriageway stretch of road between Durham City and Sunderland City is known to be notoriously dangerous and an accident hotspot. One afternoon however the stretch of road became more like a war zone. Eleven was dragged into a battle of hell spawned demons that managed to arrive in Durham causing untold havoc. Adam Dennison just so happened to be driving on the road when the battle hit the area. Adam figuring out what was going on tried his best to clear the area of innocent people caught up in the battle, giving Eleven time to concentrate on the fight. Unfortunately Adam was caught by a car that was flung into the air from the battle.
Eleven distraught at what happened to his old friend unleashed all of his fury and rage at his enemies, killing them off one by one in brutal fashion. He picked up the broken body of Adam and ran as fast as he could to the local hospital. Eleven followed the surgery team into the operating theater but it was soon clear that Adam would not survive. Eleven simply turned and walked away, his anger boiling over at the death of someone else close to him.
It is tradition with Kheldian beings when looking to merge with a new host, that they would pick a potential host that would be close to death. Adam's body was lying in the morgue after being declared dead in surgery. Although medically Adam was dead, there was still enough life in his body for a Kheldian essence to enter the morgue area and communicate with Adam's body. However this was no ordinary Kheldian essence looking to create a new Peacebringer, but it was the essence of a Dark Kheldian that had recently managed to break free from the evil world of the Nictus looking to create its first mutual merger. The dying Adam accepted the merger, but as expected it was not seamless like the mutual mergers that are associated with Peacebringers. A Warshade’s first mutual merger is always quite painful and disorienting as it is not used to having a mutual merger due to the previous Nictus beings usually forced into other beings using twisted science.
Adam suddenly gasped for air and sprung back to life. Somehow he managed to leave the morgue area and the hospital unnoticed and stumbled into the nearby fields, aimlessly wandering before collapsing in a disused farm house. Eventually after a few days of lapsing in and out of consciousness brought about by the difficult merger, the process was finally complete. This was no longer the normal Adam Dennison that existed before and it was also not a being serving the evil ideal of the Nictus, but a new Warshade being looking to make a start a new life with new ideals.
As time went on this new Warshade being began to tap into the knowledge from both the human that called himself Adam Dennison and the knowledge collected from the many years of the Kheldian being’s life. This helped the new Warshade discover his inherent powers, but he was still not sure on what to do with them or what exactly his purpose of existence was.
[edit] Exploring the World and Himself
Knowing that he could attract the wrong kind of attention to himself, the Warshade did his best to keep out of sight of everyone. Sneaking into disused buildings to rest up while he searched the new world around him for anything that might help find the answers he was looking for. He would then stumble upon a book about meditation. This would prove to be a turning point as it allowed Adam to delve further into the untapped knowledge he had. He was still not able to remember what he did in his previous experience as a Nictus being. He began to realize that he did not want to know having learnt of the history of what the Nictus was all about.
Adam would eventually be able to fully recover his entire life memory of his previous life as Adam Dennison. However this new Adam did not at first fully associate himself with his past memories. It was as if they belonged to someone else.
Adam would spend the next few months traveling the world to learn more about what his purpose in life should be. During his travels he would mediate looking for the enlightenment he was looking for, while also using his now well honed powers to defend the innocent against the evils in the world. He felt he had to as a way of atoning for the possible evils he performed in his past life with the Nictus. He also followed up on his martial arts training. Before becoming a Warshade Adam only did martial arts as a hobby and did not go on to more advanced training like Eleven did. But now as a Warshade, Adam felt he needed to complete his martial art studies as part of living an enlightened, spiritual existence.
One day when looking at a newspaper that featured an article about Eleven and The Dunelm Group, Adam suddenly reestablished himself with his own memories. His close friendship with Eleven sparked his enlightenment to go back to Durham and fight along side his old friend who gave so much to protect the world.
[edit] Meeting an old friend
Adam as quick as he could returned to Durham City. It did not take long for Adam to find Eleven. He witnessed Eleven take down a gang of muggers that attacked some local University students. Adam got chills watching on. After his battle, even Eleven began to feel something different. As if something was within his presence. However Adam still managed to keep out of sight and Eleven soon dismissed his uneasy feeling.
By accident, Adam soon stumbled upon a fake security firm that was in reality a gang that was involved in human trafficking. Unable to just sit and allow what was happening to continue Adam struck with speed and tenacity, subduing the trafficking gang and freeing the prisoners that were being held. He managed to conceal his identity so that he would not be identified. He did not want to complicate the matter until he did meet up with Eleven.
Having part of the its gang taken out by a seemingly unknown super being which they dubbed Purple Star, the trafficking gang, still posing as a legitimate security firm hatched a plan to deceive The Dunelm Group in taking down Adam Dennison, apparently attacking their business. The group naturally began investigating the matter.
Two evenings later the two old friends would come face to face for the first time in a long while. Adam once again attacked the gang looking to free more innocents from being held captive at one of the trafficking groups bases. However this time Leon Tasker and Eleven were on hand to stop the “assailant”.
Leon looked to arrest Adam by holding him at gun point. Adam was confused by this. Leon Tasker was clearly a military man that was on the side of justice, but somehow was not aware that the real bad guys were the fake security company. When Leon pressed on with his threat of arrest, Adam reluctantly knocked Leon down and held him in place with his Gravity Well power. He began to try and explain what was really happening but then he was interrupted when he sensed Eleven standing behind him.
Adam turned round gasping that he finally found what he was looking for. Eleven always thinking with his fists took that as a challenge. Adam though quickly tried to express that it was not a fight he was looking for. Eleven though did not seem to oblige the plea. This prompted Adam to finally reveal who he was. Eleven stood in shock at seeing his friend Adam walking and talking, albeit with a pale complexion, purple hair and strange clothing that Adam would not normally wear.
Adam did his best to try and explain why he was in out reality but it did not seem to get through to Eleven. He still stood in shock at what was before him before snapping out of it. Without any further thought Eleven saw Adam as a serious threat and charged at him thinking that something was using Adam's body for the purpose to stop him. Adam could only naturally try to defend himself.
Much to Eleven's surprise, both matched each other move for move which would not have happened with Adam before. Leon still stuck in the Gravity Well could only look on as the two friends battled each other. Not able to best his opponent, Eleven began to up his ferocity and rage in the battle until he eventually he knocked down his old friend. Adam though had reluctantly not used his full power at this point because the last thing he wanted to do was fight his other self. But with Eleven charging at him for a follow up attack, he was forced to unleash his Umbral powers.
Teleporting out of the line of fire, Eleven struck nothing but air as Adam fired off an Umbral blast disorienting Eleven allowing the Warshade to turn into his Dwarf form and begin to pound and throw Eleven about until he was able to hold Eleven in a Gravity Well too.
Adam then expressed his disappointment at having to battle the people he was looking for and thought would help him in taking down the real enemy that was present. With their deception now apparently now over, the trafficking gang now entered the depot area, guns toting looking to kill off the three heroes. Eleven however managed to break free from his Gravity Well trap to stand in front of Leon and Adam using his immortality to shield them from the hail of bullets that were now harmlessly bouncing off Eleven’s body.
Adam then teleported himself and his two allies out of sight. The gang frantically began to look around the area to find the heroes, but they were simply no where to be seen. Out of nowhere, Leon fired off a tear gas bomb blinding all the gang members allowing Eleven and Adam to dive in and take everyone down.
Upon the return to base after freeing the last of the prisoners, Adam introduced himself to a confused Dr Roberts. After finally getting the chance to explain everything as to who he was, Dr Roberts formally invited Warshade Eleven to join The Dunelm Group, despite Eleven still having some reservations over hanging around his seemingly resurrected friend.
The frosty relationship continues to this day in particular when Adam regularly adds fuel to the fire of Eleven’s rage through his antics and that Adam still bests him at sparring sessions since becoming a Warshade. But Eleven still has the respect for a fellow warrior and the fact that Adam is alive and well to an extent keeping good memories of Eleven's past alive.
[edit] Trivia
- Adam is a keen music listener. His favorite bands at the moment are Franz Ferdinand, Kasabian, Kaiser Chiefs and The Fratellis. He has also recently discovered The Hoosiers and digs them too.
- Adam does not know what his previous Kheldian name was and does not want to know in case it unlocks unwanted memories of his time with the Nictus. He has kept the name Purple Star if pressed for a Kheldian name or a mission demands the use of Codenames, but he does not tend the use the name that much and goes by his human name.
- During one particular long meditation session, Adam managed to go through three large packets of Bourbon Cream biscuits. While he did not find any enlightenment or come to some philosophical realization at the end of it, he did find out that he can pack away as much food as he wants without getting fat. He thinks it has something to with the Giant Lobster form within him hoarding all the food.
